In addition to the horrible service, every time I have visited, I have had to flag someone down to provide the most basic items--milk, napkins, etc. They always brusquely point to where they should be, and I always have to tell them that they have run out. I have never received anything resembling an apology. They are shameless.

Loosen up! It's a coffee shop...not a coffee FACTORY. I love the food...I love the prices...and I can't think of ANYONE who works through an entire 8 hour day without needing some comic relief and a bit of fun. So what if the staff is casual? Who cares if you don't get your bagel and coffee in the 3.5 seconds you need to carry on your hurried day? I go there to relax and enjoy the food...not to criticize a bunch of kids who probably get less sleep due to the combo of work and school than any overly-picky Yuppie or brusk Suit in a hurry to catch the train. If you want to enjoy a lovely day, a warm muffin and a great cup of coffee...go to Beans and Bagels (either one is awesome). If you want effiency and perfection...buy a pound there and make your own at home!

I have to say the service could be better, but who can say they've never experienced snobbery at Starbucks? Plus, they charge almost twice as much as B&B does. Starbucks won't heat up muffins for you either. As long as the food and bevs are good and cheap, I can put up with the snobs behind the counter. I support local businesses and you should too!

I've gone to both B&Bs (Rockwell and Montrose) and I agree with the comments here about the attitude at the Rockwell B&B. I love the coffee (Metropolis, mostly) that they serve and their bagels are some of the better ones that I've been able to find in Chicago. But when I've gone to the Rockwell B&B, it seems pretty clear that I'm not cool enough or important enough to get the little attention you might want from a neighborhood coffee place. I like my coffee, but I like pleasant experiences more and will go to Starbucks if that's where I'm not going to get smacked with ennui, superiority, condescension or whatever else is behind that attitude. Yes, yes, I know...your band is huge in Belgium....whatever. It's too bad, b/c the other B&B at Montrose is great (in spite of the comments you might read on the Centerstage review about people being "baked"..oh, please). I'll not be going to the Rockwell store anytime soon.

I’ve been going to Beans and Bagels now for about 2 months on Saturday mornings. I’ve found the place to be a quaint out-of-the-way place that is more personal than your typical Starbucks or Caribou Coffee place (both of which I still visit often). My experiences have been good so far. I enjoy the coffee, the bagels, and the atmosphere. For me, it’s a nice little place to read on a Saturday morning while enjoying some good coffee and a toasted bagel for a pretty good price. No doubt we will all have good and bad experiences, but so far, things are good there.

"Beans and Bagels"? Well this Sun. the name must have been changed to "Beans" because they were out of bagels. "Out of Bagels?" I asked. "Yeah we have been swamped all day." the snotty barista replied. Well, I think to myself, go get some more. This location has been open for a year and you don't have an idea of how many bagels you might sell on a Sun. And you don't need to give your customers an attitude because they don't know your up-to-the-minute inventory. You guys might want to think about cahnging your name to 'Beans, Poor Service and Maybe Some Other Items On Our Menu.'

I've had some of the worst service of my life at the Beans & Bagels on Leland and Rockwell. I'm consistently impressed by the degree to which they manage to bungle my order. A typical experience will involve waiting in line while the 3-5 people working at the counter or back in the “kitchen” joke around with each other. Once the wait is over, and I’m actually able to place my order, I experience varying degrees of attention – from none, to distracted to “some”. After repeating my order a minimum of 3-5 times, to a series of people who seem to be having a good time and consider customers as an afterthought, I may actually get what I want. I’m all for people enjoying their workmates and their jobs, but at this place, it happens at the expense of the customer. It would be amazing to have just ONE person there actually pay attention to what I ask for, and deliver said order accurately and quickly. Please, pierce whatever body part you need to, and please, be as alternative and hip as you care to, but please, pay attention to what I say, get my order right, and respect my time. You may enjoy hangin out behind the counter and enjoying a laugh with your friends, but be mindful that you’re working in a COFFEE SHOP and there are people who want to get in and out in under 15 minutes. I don’t want to go to Starbucks when there’s a local option, but there is something to be said for a company that has a system for the workflow, and a focus on the CUSTOMER.
