I recently purchased some half price gift certificates for this restarant. My son and I ordered shrimp cocktail which had shrimps in it that were rancid. I told the waitress whom could speak little english and she just said "oh". The rice and bean were very bland and the salsa were nothing to write home about. We also ordered combo fahitas , steak shrimp and chicken which were also tasteless. We left most of the food on the plates. I left a 15% tip. I also had an additional $80.00 worth of gift certificates that i almost gave away to the annoying patrons that were sitting at a table near us cursing throughout our dining experience. I am contremplating sending these certificates to a homeless shelter. This place is a first class dump.

Credit/Debit users beware! I have ordered from ElRanchito dozens of times...the delivery it slow, but the food is good and cheap...no complaints there. But, last night, I ordered using my debit card and was charged 4 times for my order. When called the manager about it this morning, he demanded to see a paper copy of the bank statement, and insisted that I was somehow trying to cheap HIM. I explained my printer was broken, and when I called 3 way with my bank, to prove that the charges were pending, he insisted that the call center employee was possibly fake as well, and that he wouldn't believe anything until he saw my bank statement (why he thought I should release that to him, I'll never know) Personally, I will not be ordering from there ever again, but if you do PLEASE use cash only...he admitted that he has "problems with his machine", but argued with me, and the Bank teller, for nearly 45 minutes. There are too many taquerias in Chicago to endure that sort of treatment.

What a fun place! I was there at 3am a few weeks ago, and it was hopping! My friends and I stumbled across it when we needed to find somewhere to use the bathroom, and since it was for patrons only we decided to get some banana milkshakes, which were amazing. Everything looked really good, and it was just cool to see such an interesting crowd assembled there so late. I will defintely be back there for a late night snack next time I'm in the area.

I've been dining at this restaurant for about 5 years. It started out great, with wonderful burritos and green salsa. I just went with my family 10/1/05 and had the worst experience of my life. The service was awful, and when I asked for the bill, the waitress tried to charge me an extra $15 and refused to take it off the bill when I pointed out the error. (The problem was that the waitress couldn't understand the difference between a 15% gratuity and a $15 added charge.) To top it off, a drunk/high customer started trying to "mediate" the situation, only adding to the trouble. My advice: If you like living on the edge, this is your place. If you expect a normal restaurant with waitresses that do their job and customers that are not druggies, go to El Palmer across the street.

I live down the street from this low-key mexican joint. As a matter of fact I call it the mexican joint. They got the best Tortas in chicago, along with the great Orchatas. I also tried the chicken enchiladas and its also mad flame. This is the place to eat if your up in the North Pole (Northside).

Great food for no money at all. The best green salsa in the city.
