Me and my wife have attended the festival for the last 5 years and we love it although we would love to see the Afro-Latin connection of the caribbean(Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, & Cuba) represented more. Salsa & merenque with all of its 'natural' instruments & percussions & foods got their roots from the "Motherland" also and it should not be forgotten!

The largest proportion of the African-Caribbean population in the UK are of Jamaican origin; others trace origins to nations such as Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Montserrat, Anguilla, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, which though located on the South American mainland, is very culturally similar to the Caribbean, and was historically considered to be part of the British West Indies, and Belize (formerly British Honduras), in Central America, which culturally is more akin to the English-speaking Caribbean than to Latin America, due to its colonial and still-extant economic ties to the UK.

We had a great time- all four days! Everything from the Caribbean food, to the performers! My only dissappointment was that in such a large park, after purchasing beer/wine, we were instructed to drink ONLY in a beer garden. It was a very small and confined area. But with the gate charge being $10-$15 dollars, beer/wine $5.oo dollars, I just don't see how the vendors profited.

I must say that Saturday night of the Festival I was completely blown away by Leon (the actor) and his band Leon & The Peoples. What an entertaining and engaging set. He involves the audience and really puts on a show. Their songs are great!! I've since purchased their CD and trust me, you will not be disappointed. Can't wait to see them again. Big ups to the Fest for bringing us something new and fresh!!!

I LOVE this festival! One of the best in Chicago. The food is great and the people are at their best. Very kind! The global African family working together.

Last year I went to the vendor section ONLY, I did not stay for the music. What I saw was interesting and controversial. There were several vendors who sold duplicate items. So you might see one table with shea butter and silver jewelry and the next table with the same and on and on. There were some vendors with beautiful wood African statues that cost a bundle, and only a few vendors that had natural beauty products (hand-made). It was mixed bag of vendors, but to go from table to table and see the same items was a little disappointing. I will attend again in 2005 because I want more shea butter.
