The service is overtly rude and mean-spirited! The food is mediocre on it's best day. I used to be a regular not for the food or the service. Singer Erin MacDougald, wonderful jazz no imitation, no cheap lounge act. She obscured the sub-standard elements of the venue with her extraordinary voice and personality. And her presence, was a big benefit to Swirl's weeknight business, no question. She left the club and I stopped going. Until recently. A Tuesday night with a colleague. Rotten service, mushy food and STALE WINE AT A WINE BAR. It tasted like rubbing alcohol. The bathroom smelled like urine. Urine. In a wine bar. But it gets worse. The new "jazz singer" was terrible. That's a euphemism. Her sex kitten act couldn't cover up her inability to entertain a room of scarcely 6 people, nor could she quite sing in tune. The only blessing as it were the otherwise irritating drunk women talking loudly over her so we didn't have to hear her squeaking out any more bad notes. And then came our check, 30 minutes or so after we asked for it. We were over-billed and treated like criminals for pointing it out to management. That word should be in quotations too. "Management". Do not waste your time at Swirl. There really are more worthy small wine bars to support in town. (You can start with Webster's Wine Bar.)

Absolutely horrible service. We had two different waiters who were extremely rude to us. And only became more hostile when we told them it was unacceptable to speak to customers that way. The worse part is that the manager is the owner and she is oblivious to what professional service means. When we spoke to her, she didn't appear to think it was that big a deal. She said, "well, there are two sides to everything." So much for the customer is always right.

Swirl Wine Bar has decent atmosphere, but it could be SO much better--I popped in one night expecting to see the flamenco group advertised on their website, but they cancelled and noone bothered to update this important information on their website. (Duh!) Also the food / drink really is overpriced--$30 for a bottle of house wine that was no better than the $8 stuff you can get at the grocery store. Also the place fills up easily with no place to sit. I went in one night and had to STAND while there were empty tables that were tagged as "reserved". This was VERY frustrating(!!!) They should have a first come / first served policy, rather than holding tables for people that may or may not show up. Overall, I'd rate the place C-.

If you want to spend $20/head to get into an overpriced wine bar with no music, DJ, band, dancing, or any other entertainment, this is the place for you.
I went to Swirl last night with 4 women at precisely 11:30 PM. I happened to go in first, and the doorman let me slip right through. I was texting as I was walking in and so wasn't paying attention. I turn around to see my 4 female companions stuck at the hostess stand paying a cover. When they caught up to me, they said they had to pay a $20 per person cover. We were fuming, especially after having realized that there was no particular entertainment at the venue. The $20 cover was simply to get into a wine bar. Within 30 seconds, we decided to leave, forgoing the $80 we had just spent (we did ask the hostess for the money back, she of course refused, even though she let other women in WITHOUT cover right before our eyes), and we walked 3 blocks to Bin 36, a wine bar with no cover, more space, better wine, better cheese, and friendlier service.

Swirl Stinks. Terrible and overpriced wine and food selection. Cheese plate was a joke. Service was horrid - we waited 45 minutes for our cheese plate and 1 hour and 20 minutes for empanadas. We will never go back - save your time and money and head to Randolph Tasting Room. So much better.

Amazing place, amazing people! I e-mailed Swirl Wine Bar for information on their New Year's Eve packages. Within hours, I got a call back. I wasn't able to answer the phone, but they left a very nice message with all their information. My friends and I actually decided on another wine bar for New Year's. However, our reservations got messed up at the other wine bar (what a disaster) and since I still had the message from Swirl, I called. The woman who answered the phone was incredibly nice and understanding and told us to come on over - she would be at the door waiting for us. We got a great deal at the door. Everyone was extremely nice: the owner, the servers, the bartenders, even the woman at the coat check. The bar itself is great. It has a warm, classy atmosphere and a fun=loving, sophisticated crowd. It was everything we were looking for. We had a great New Year's at Swirl Wine Bar and will definitely visit again.
