I live a little too far west to get to Pequod's very often -- it's a long drive from my home in California -- but whenever I'm in the Chicago area, Pequod's is on the list!

Best pizza I've ever had was a couple of years ago when my son and I stopped in and ordered a large deep dish with sausage and fresh garlic -- I thought I'd had good pizza before, but this was the best!

Im am local to the orgional location. I have in the past been dissapointed with the inconstintently of the pizza. Over all i find the deep dish pizza to be the best in chicago. The crust is unique and to die for. I crave their pizza weekly. They have a fantastic lucnch special, a personal deep dish, & beer for $5. You cannot beat a deal like that.

The edge of the crust is CARMELIZED with cheese.

My daughter and I visited Lowes Home Improvement Store in the Brickyard Mall a few Sundays ago. Afterwards and since we were so close to Peaqod's location, and had read so many excellent reviews about its pizzas, we decided to stop by the place. After driving around Clybourn/Ashland areas for about an hour, and calling Peaqod's asking personnel for directions to get to their pizza place, we finally located it. But for the cook, from what I could see we were the only African American persons in the place. Peaqod is a good atmospheric quant pizza place. The service was quick, the employees attentive, and nice. My daughter and I sat at the bar & didn't wait very long to receive our cheese spinach & pizza. We wanted to eat a portion of it before we left the place so we opened it & the entire crust of cheese encircling the pizza was burnt black and unpalatable. We were just extremely disappointed with the quality and taste of the pizza and its crust was not baked thoroughly. Our bartender saw the pizza, but never offered to rectify our visible disappointment by offering us a replacement pizza and we did not complain either. The cost of the pizza was extreme considering its quality.

We went here on a whim wednesday nite, and were really suprised. The food was amazing, but the service was even better!! Our server was friendly, even though we came in soooo late!! He took time to explain the pizza to us, and even sat down to talk to us about what we liked. This shouldn't seem like a big deal, but I work in the service industry, and I know how much it can suck to get a table a half hour before you close. We enjoyed our pizza, but our server really made it a special experience.

No doubt, the pizza is good. But the service, all the way down to the way the menu is worded, is just...annoying.

"Extra is extra. Nothing for nothing". You'd think ppl went there LOOKING for free food? Why the ungrateful slap in the face?

The actual staff is slow. No, not the cooking time...but time to get your order, time to get a check, etc.

And I think the worst thing about the service is maybe something they think means GOOD service. They had literally three ppl standing the front/center table. They apparently do nothing except quickly point you to your table when you walk in, yes, WHILE talking on their cellphones. oh yeah, and then they yell thanks when you leave. Here you are waiting for everything...while these three just sit there.

I would venture to say that I have eaten at every so called "great" pizza place in this city. I have been going to Pequod's for over 30 years now, starting back in the old days when Burt owned it, and Jeff was waiter. The Pizza is the best, nothing compares. I don't live as close to Pequods as I used to, but pick it up at every opportunity. The amazing thing about Pequods is that the pizza actually tastes better when reheated, you have to wrap it piece by piece, in tin foil, and reheat at 350 degrees for a half hour.

I ordered for pickup tonight. I was greeted three times by friendly staff and the guy who rang me up was very nice. When I left, a staff member said "thank you". The place seemed hopping, customers happy...don't know what the the negative reviews are all about. The pizza was tasty and quite good! We'll be back, even if I don't live close by. My advice to people who complain about the service: Be nice and in general people will be nice back!

This pizza is by far the best I have ever eaten...service has always been laid back as expected...just great pizza and good beer...if you want a waiter or waitress to be at your beckoned call you should probably not consider eating here...the pizza is expensive and you certainly get your moneys worth...the deep dish is the way to go.
