Very cool place. I was visiting from out of town, thought the shared tables were great, both concept and execution of food were almost perfect, service was very good. This place nailed it.

OH MY GOD! What a meal. If you are pretentious and need to be doted on, DONT'T GO. If you seek GREAT food and Excellent obscure wines then GO. The atmosphere is very casual and YES it will be crowded. But that's part of the fun. Get to know your table mates, share opinions on the food, wine and ambiance. Every item on the menu was expertly executed and the wines by the carafina were prefect to share. Best money I have spent on a meal in a long time.

Do not miss Avec. The most memorable meal on our trip to chicago. I second the accolade for the focaccia and the marinated swordfish? Delectable.

I really enjoyed my birthday dinner on Thursday, Sept 22. Avec was crowded but comfortable, and the hostess was fun and seated us quickly. The food was delicious and the service was attentive. Come on midwesterners! Be open to trying something different, and stop complaining about things you're not used to! Very chic place that I'll visit again soon.

5 of us were crammed into a stark and cold wooden table by an unfriendly and apparently inconvienenced hostess. We were told we could not keep our computer bags with us and when we hesitated to give them to her she became insistant that we did. We reluctantly complied. Our waiter was better, food ok, wine very good. The place is far too small and tries but fails to be an overly urban shiek hotspot. I haven't had to share crowded long rectangle tables with others since my high school days and then I didn't have to pay $200 to do so! First impressions matter-If I owned the place my first course of business would be to fire the hostess. Oh, and when I inquired about getting a food item to go I was immediately told 'oh no, our food must only be enjoyed here'-spare me! Too bad Avec will not get a chance to make another first impression. Don't waste your time and money at Avec-Chicago has too many excellent establishments to allow this one to leave you disappointed. Avec I'm sure will continue on as long as its patrons accept inferior treatment. . . just sans me an my friends.

Amazing. Great food, great staff, great space. Try and get there early for a table near the window.

Avec is the perfect no frills, good eats, and great wine restaurant. This "small plates" place with a casual atmostphere encourages it's concept of sharing implied by its name and communal tables, yet the hip still feel at home, is the first non-Spanish restaurant to pull off the "tapas" concept effortlessly. So, if you are looking for a great evening with friends that will take you to the coasts of the mediterranean, please go here as this place is both "fresh" in terms of in its attention to the quality of ingredients and also, being unique in concept in Chicago's restaurant scene. The wine list is one of the best as it relates to the food. So, skip the norm like Chardonnay and Cabernet and go for the Bierzo, Albarino, or yes, even a Rose because you will be surprised how well these wines pair with the regional dishes. I am still dreaming of the fennel salad(and the heirloom apple salad, too), braised octopus, quail and lamb grill, I can go on and on...do not skip the focaccia with truffle oil--it is divine. This is definately a place you can visit weekly...Bravo!

amazingly hot! Service was funky and fabulous, eat the Basa dish and you will dream of tropical islands for weeks. A very sexy and relaxed atmosphere, with fresh seasonal dishes. Veggie friendly. Drink up and head out to Avec.
