This was a cozy place my roommate and I walked into, I'd like to go back to on a date. We had the lemon chicken in a white wine sauce and the chicken eggplant. Sat up front to look out the windows. I thought our Tuesday night dinner was excellent especially with the live music.

Ruined our evening. They have no idea how to manage reservations. We had a 7pm reservation for 5. After waiting 15 minutes at the door, it was apparent that it was going to be at least another 45 minutes. This is a continual problem.

A lovely joint. I've been several times, from a low-key weekend lunch to a blow-out New Year's Eve bash. Each time is pleasant. Atmos is definitely intimate, which can seem cozy or crowded (in summer, the sidewalk patio relieves occasional congestion). Most evenings are accompanied by live music. Wine list is extensive but expensive...a $15 corking fee can alleviate. Strangely absent from the regular menu is risotto, but it's usually one of the specials, or once I asked for a custom dish. Staff is always courteous...the gaggle of young female waitresses is a departure from the classic European tradition of male waiters in long white aprons (see Volare, for example). Pizzas are the jewel in the culinary crown. Portions tend to weigh on the larger side - expect leftovers if not famished. Ownership is personable and family-oriented.

We really wanted to like this place. We sat near the kitchen and watched a series of interesting looking pizzas leave the kitchen.

The wine was good, albeit overpriced, and the bread was delicious; they were the best parts of the meal. We ordered sautéed clams bathed in a wonderful Pinot Grigio broth, but the clams were dry and virtually tasteless. The friendly waiter was more than willing to design orders to our liking. However, when the food arrived, much to our dismay, it was just as listed in the menu--not what we ordered or wanted.

The seafood was good and so was the light red sauce, but the fettuccini was too heavy a noodle for such a delicate dish. My wife ordered a seafood ravioli with a special sauce, the one the clams were swimming in, but she got the menu-sauce instead and the ravioli was bland, to say the least.

If I choose to return, I’ll order pizza, a bottle of wine, and call it a day.

My experience thus far here has not been good, but I plan on giving Piazza Bella another shot, because I HAVE to like the restaurant across the street from me. We went on a busy evening, and the hostess had to scrounge for a table for us, and had a terrible attitude. If you work in the service industry, you really need to at least PRETEND to like your job. Apparently she didn't get the memo.

We started with an order of bruschetta, which was definitely yummy. I ordered the puttanesca, one of my favorite dishes, which I should know better. Why? I make it better at home. It wasn't good at all, the sauce was completely the wrong consistency, and I only ate a few bites. It was better a day or two later when I reheated it for lunch. The boy enjoyed his order (pasta with a bunch of veggies), and I had it for lunch the next day, and it was definitely very good.

I don't really like the cramped feeling at Piazza Bella, and I do think their prices are a bit high, but I see some potential, and I'm willing to try it again. Hopefully it'll do better next time.

Piazza Bella is a fantastic spot for date night or with a bunch of friends. The service is prompt and impeccable. The Lemon Linguini dish is to die for...I practically licked the plate! I have been to several italian eateries throughout the city and Piazza Bella is second to none. The wine selection is terrific too. It's a great neighborhood secret!

Excellent place. You will definatley get your money's worth here. I suggest you always ask about the specials as they are usally great, but I've found they tend too be quite a bit higher priced then the average menu entree; not that they're not worth it, but just so you are prepared when the bill comes. You can eat there on a budget though, the Lasagna for under $11 is an absolute steal. Service everytime I've been there has been second to none; our waitress last night was very knowledgable in both the food and wine. The Atmosphere is great for a date or dinner with friends and family. Try it..I doubt you would be disapointed.

I live in the neighborhood and cannot rave enough about this fabulous restaurant. The atmosphere is beautiful, the service is impeccible, and the food is quite tasty. My boyfriend's 100% Italian family raves about it and they are quite the critics. I go there for a casual date with my boy or a fun night with the girls. Piazza Bella is one of my fave restaurants in Chicago. Try the fusili!

My wife and I had a fantastic meal just this evening. I had the Salmon with Asparagus complemented perfectly by a glass of the La Francesca Pinot Grigio. My wife's dish was the Spinach Ravioli with Peppers. Everything was superb with one minor exception, one piece of the Grilled Calamari was a touch underdone. The service was prompt and courteous and thought the space is in fact rather "intimate" at no time did I feel cramped. I recommend you to look past dave's hyperbole and give Piazza Bella a try and judge for yourself.

Whoever wrote the above review was obviously having a bad day.

This is by far the best experience I've had at an Italian restaurant in Chicago. The staff is prompt and friendly and the food is beyond excellent, with a very diverse menu that offers something for everyone! If you're looking for a great romantic spot, this is your place!
