Cannot rate the food because we did not stay long enough to do so. Although the place was virtually empty were seated in a garishly lit section next to a family with two unruly young children. Nothing against kids, I have two of my own, however, when out for a weekend bite with my wife, I am looking to get away from children. When I asked for another table, it was as if I had asked them to build a new wing on the restaurant. The waiter lacked the authority to move us. He called the house manager who grudgingly agreed to our moving to another section, but said we could only sit at one table, (naturally the least desirable) although the entire section was virtually empty. When I inquired about the other empty tables, the HM said those were for people who had reservations. We HAD a reservation but had arrived 15 minutes early. When it became evident the HM would not accommodate us on table choice we elected to vote with our feet and walked out the door to a much better sushi venue. I do not care if they are serving nirvana on a gold platter, they lack basic business sense and customer service is non-existent. In this enconomy that is unforgivable. There are far too many great restaurants out there to choose from.

Renga-tai in Crawford? Are you crazy mark hennessy? The chef is right you have no idea what good sushi is. I spent $400 here last friday, and believe me it was the best and most authentic sushi I've had. mark hennessy, you probably think Blue Water Grill is authentic Japanese Cuisine. Maybe even RA sushi.

Expensive, bad service, smelly sashimi. I ordered the yellowtail, eight pieces for thirty dollars. After one piece I sent the plate back, and the owner stormed from the kitchen yelling at me and my date about how we do not know good sashimi, even though I lived in Japan! Terrible experience, bad food. Try Renga-tai on Crawford instead.

Found out about this place from the "Check Please" television show. Had a fantastic traditional spread of some of the freshest sushi in Chicago. They don't open unless Katsu checks the fish personally. Spend the extra money to get the chef's personal attention. This is intimate Sushi at it's finest.
