went to Sushi Samba Rio last night for work and was sorely disappointed. It is hard to exactly pinpoint what it was that left me feeling as though I had experienced a subpar dining experience at best, but needless to say I left feeling unsatisfied. Although the presentation was quite nice, I found most of the appetizers to be bland. The crabcake was very boring and unflavorful - it tasted like something you would order at an Old Man Steakhouse. I did like the calamari but the maki rolls were only so-so and the El Topo with mozarella just did not work at all. I ordered a quinoa dish for my main course but it would have worked much better if rice had been used. The consistency didn't work at all and the aspargus used did not seem that fresh. Dessert was also disappointing. I ordered a fondue dish and although the presentation was ok it was boring fondue. Overall, I did not have a great meal and I would recommend Sushi Wabi in the West Loop or Japonais for a more enjoyable, upscale sushi experience

The service was slow and the shrimp tempura was too heavily breaded and greasy. Stylish interiors, but no real elan when it came to food. I won't be going back.

This place takes some flak around town, but after having eaten at most of the good sushi joints in town, I have decided that this is still one of my favorites. The Neo Tokyo roll is amazing, as is their yellow tail sushi. It is a little pricey, but no worse then any of the popular sushi spots.
