Roger Carlson, the proprietor of this esteemed bastion of bibliophilia, has saved me more than once during my graduate school days/daze by serendipitously having in stock the rare tomes that neither NU's nor Loyola U's formidable libraries had in stock concerning Eastern European history. And for unexpected bargains, don't forget to check out the "Cheap, Cheaper, Cheapest" section (where books cost no more than $3.00)! I've always loved paying a visit to this shop on rain-kissed afternoons when time is plentiful for the killing... it reminds me of the stores I used to frequent in the former Yugoslavia. :-)

This bookstore has very creative decor and cozy ambiance, with different sections decorated with antique curiosities to correspond to the theme of the books in that section. It's interesting to browse through, and has a good collection of non-fiction, however its literature selection is quite limited.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL Bookman's Alley website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
