Not recommended. Service was extremely slow, even though there were a couple empty tables. The space was tight. I was seated under the menu bin, and the waitress proceeded to drop a menu on my head. The food is nothing special, though the portion are decent - BUT BEWARE, they only accept cash. No signs on the door or menu, nor any mention by the waitress. "Conveniently" they have their own ATM machine (with a $2.50 surcharge) in the front of the restaurant. Not a bad scam: If 100 customers a day are surprised by the cash only policy and use the ATM, then a tidy $250 is pocketed on a daily basis. I would not recommend this place... there are many better choices in the neighborhood.

I too would never go back here. I made the mistake of ordering a burger. The menu said "cooked to order" I was never asked how I wanted it cooked. I received a pre-made frozen patty "cooked to garbage." I never received soup. The service stunk. The topper was when I went to pay with a credit card, they told me they don't accept them. They told me to use their ATM out in front. What a scam they got going there.

I will never go to Pauline's again. The worse experience ever! I went with my husband and daughters on Palm Sunday. After waiting more than 30 minutes, the restaurant decided to seat a party of ten that had just arrived. When we asked the waitress why the table of 10 was seated right away, the owner, who was listening, said "if you are unhappy, you can leave." Then he yelled at me in front of my 5 year-old and 19 month-old saying "go out" and opened the door for us to leave. The owner is very rude. I will never go to that place again and urge you not to support that business. The owner doesn't deserve our money.

The worst service ever. No substitutions are allowed on weekends, but they still get your order wrong. It's often cold when delivered, which is especially odd because it's not all delivered at the same time. You could be finished eating before your companions get their first items. Ask the waitress a question about the menu and get a blank look. Complain to the owner and get a response that indicates he doesn't really care if you return. Try M. Henry ot Clark north of Bryn Mawr to see how a breakfast restaurant should be run.

Whenever I come into town to visit my sister, I always make a point to have breakfast at Pauline's at least once. I love the atmosphere and the huge portions. It's a great place with great company to boot!

Everybody needs a favorite diner to hit up on weekends and hungover mornings, and Pauline's is a can't-miss. It gets crowded on the weekends, but the owner will run around and stick a complitmentary drink in your hand if he notices you waiting (I've ended up with everything from smoothies to champagne). The staff is often a little frazzled, but they'll take care of everything you need and right any wrongs. The omelets are not the fluffiest, but still quite good, although the pancakes are so great that you'll never come close to making ones as good at home.

I moved from Chicago 4 years ago, and I'm in the process of moving back. In those 4 years, I always had a desire to return to Paulines. I returned this weekend, and was really disappointed. The waitress had to return four times to confirm our order, the coffee was terrible and the food wasn't what I remembered. It's sad to see the decline in the food and service.

Pauline's is everything you want in a neighborhood breakfast place- hot, fast, cheap, big portions, good! I personally like the cheesy, mix-match diner interior. Who said it was pricey? I don't think I've ever paid more than $10. for brunch, and it's no more if not less than most diners, Ann Sathers, etc. The coffee keeps flowing, and I like that you can get fresh fruit and fresh-squeezed oj here even in the dead of winter. I've never felt rushed to leave. The service is usually decent and they often have your beverages ready for you before you've even had time to settle into your seat. If you haven't gone in a while, why not give it a try? It's really cute.

It's a funky atmosphere with decent breakfast food. Unfortunately the quality of the service has declined substantially in recent months. It takes a long time to get a server's attention. The food takes a long time to arrive, and when it does, it is often cold or the wrong order. Forget about having it your way. If you don't want cheese on your omlette you just have to deal with it. Omitting cheese is considered a forbidden "substitution." The servers seem indifferent to the patrons plight.

I've been to Paulines three times, and on TWO of those occasions, someone at my table has had a foriegn object cooked into their food.

Just last Sunday, I found a plastic bread-tie cooked into in my pancakes, which is off-putting, and the waitress accused me of putting it in there, "because it hadn't melted", which is simply rude and unacceptable.

    I'll never go back.
