    I'm dismayed to read the number of poor reviews of Marcello's. I can honestly say that we have never had a bad meal there, and we are not the easiest people to please. We have frequently taken out of town guests there (including several who have specific special dietary needs, and some who are just generally difficult restaurant goers), and everyone has raved about their meal...from the pizzas through the pasta dishes through the more elaborate entrees.

    This isn't a fancy place, but good, basic, generously portioned Italian food.

    Their thin crust pizza is great, but the deep dish is very disappointing. It has marina sauce spread on top, which does not have any pizza sauce taste. It is incomparable to other great chicago deep dish pizzas, and if you order deep dish at marcello's, you will really be wasting your money. If you want fantastic chicago deep dish, you are much better off with lou malnati's (the best), giordano's, or gino's east.

    Definitely disappointed with the pizza from here. Pizza came on time, but cold. As above person stated, the sauce was like marinara, and not good. I had veggies on one, the veggies were fresh, but the cheese pizza was just disgusting. I would NEVER order from here again.

    I’ve been eating pizza in Chicago my entire life, and I’m sorry to say that Marcello’ pizza is by far the worst I have ever had. Here’s why:

    1. They use marinara sauce. Not pizza sauce, but marinara sauce. I don’t know about you, but there’s something really gross about marinara sauce on pizza. And not just any marinara sauce, but one that appears to be made up of 90% onion. Seriously, if you’re going to put something like that on a pizza, you should indicate it in your menu. The onions were out of control and it tasted like Ragu. My roommate and I were floored by how crappy it was.

    2. The cheese wasn’t melted. Oh, it was warm, but barely. And when I scraped off the sauce, I found it looked kinda like what it would look like if you left a bunch of shredded mozzarella on top of a hot stove for 2 minutes. Soft, but nowhere near melted. This is just stupid.

    3. The price. 23 bucks for essentially a thin pizza. We ordered the pan pizza, but you wouldn’t know it by how anemic and thin it looked. I know they’re going for the upscale market, but if that’s the case, they need to go back to the drawing board.

    Fact of the matter is, there’s plenty of other good Chicago joints to choose from. I’d stay very far away from this one.
