So it is easy to dismiss the Let-us-entertain you chain of restaurants as just another in the long line of “Big Box” kind of restaurants in the city. Don’t do it! If you are looking for something of quality and substance then Vongs Thai Kitchen is the place. The food is almost always great, and the service is always more then stellar.
If you are with a group the Black Plate is well worth the investment, you get multiple entries and dissert options and a smattering of appetizers (enough for all in your group to try one of each). You select your main course and dessert options ensuring that even the most diverse group will enjoy there meal. I highly recommend the yellow Currie, the tofu is some of the best I have ever had (and I have eaten a lot of tofu). As far as desserts the Passion fruit soufflé is out of this world.
So if you are in the loop and want a good meal with great service in an atmosphere that is conducive to chatting give Vong’s a try you won’t regret it.

I am generally a pretty easy-going diner, but I think the central location and pleasant dinner atmosphere of this place must keep it in business. The curry was disappointing -- not very spicy compared to what I've had elsewhere, and the vegetables tasted like they came from a bagged frozen mix. Our server was pretty flighty and did not seem very happy to answer questions or respond to basic requests (like refilling water glasses). The prices weren't bad compared to other dinner menus, but given that Thai food tends to be relatively inexpensive, this seemed overpriced, especially given the mediocrity of the food. On a positive note, the drink I got, the Lychee Bomb, was unique, enjoyable, and reasonably priced. But unfortunately, it is not enough to make me want to visit again!

I was there today and it was wonderful. The waitstaff was excellent. The food was great. I had never had thai food before. I am afraid to try other places now because it was so excellent. I was in a big group and all were taken care of in a timely manner.

My husband and I have eaten at VTK numerous times and have never been disappointed. The service and the food has always been excellent. The ambiance adds to the style, which is warm and inviting. The prices are reasonable and we will continue to come back.

I can't speak to the bad service other reviewers have claimed, as we had good service. More importantly, though, is the quality of the food. I eat a LOT of Thai food and Vong's is among the best I've had. The seafood was very fresh (the crab and shrimp pad thai is to die for) and all of the dishes I tried were perfectly spiced. I can't wait until I'm in chicago again so that I can eat at Vong's again.

The hostess was very rude and inhospitable. The food was over-priced. We were very uncomfotable with the waistaff standing around with nothing better to do other than to stare at us and whisper. There were chopsticks on the table which shows how much the restaurant owner knows about Thai cuisine. There were also Japanese plates on the table. The name of the restaurant should not contain the work Thai because it is not a Thai restaurant. The best thing that VTK can do to better the restaurant is to fire the Asian hostess that was working on Firday, March 26, 2004, starting at 5:30pm. She started off as being rude and confirmed her meaness by giving us an evil look every time she walked by our table to seat other customers.

Service was good. Ambience was cozy--perfect for nighttime dining. The food(pad thai and peanut curry chicken) was delicious, melt-in-your-mouth, incredible. However, skip dessert--creme brulee was not a stunner. Can't wait to go back to try another entree.

We have indeed revisited Vong's for dinner since my last posting. The experience was possibly superior and the food of equal caliber. There is a chance it was cozier due to exterior darkness and mood seducing interior lighting. We plan to return a third time.

We did not have the experience ExperiencedDiner speaks of. The ambiance was inviting, interesting and warm, despite the height of the ceiling. Our waiter was pleasant and helpful and continued to refresh the refreshing, daily made ginger/lemon beverage we ordered on a regular and timely basis. We were there for lunch, so perhaps there's the difference. But food was indeed tasty and presented beautifully. Sure, you can always find something better, but we're going back for dinner to taste something else and enjoy the atmosphere!

UGGGGHHH. Location, Location, Location-that must be what keeps this place busy on a regular basis. Some interesting dishes do not make up for an inexperienced waitstaff, indifferent managers, and a poorly designed dining room. When there, they seated a group of twenty in an area they called "group dining area" although there was nothing to hinder the noise nor our view of their childish antics. When we asked to be moved, hostess then the manager were pretentious and rude (without cause-it isn't like they are at Tavern on the the Green!) Food was quite good with nice presentation. Prices were okay. WE WOULD NOT RETURN--CHICAGO OFFERS BETTER!!
