I haven't been to Trader Todd's in years but I met Donald Gibb there one night and he is one of the friendliest guys you could ever meet! He got up and sang Karaoke with my friend and me and it was a riot! Next time I'm back in Chicago I'm going to take my son in there with me.

Hey there. I used to work in the origional Trader Todds in Dearborn. I was the Irish doorguy called "Laddy-boy". This was back in '97 though. Was 21 at time. Joe was main bartender. If anyone has an email/website address for Todds bar, I would be v grateful if you could post it. If Todd himself is reading it - do you remember trying to fix up the pool-room in Dearborn at about 3am one morning? Madness, but good madness!!

The bartender/Door guy called the cops on me and got me arrested for being drunk. its a bar, you got me drunk, and then call police. screw you. i was a regular and i intend to speak to the owner about you. i spent 200 bucks that particular night and instead of calling me a cab they called the cops.

In May my wonderful bridesmaids threw me the best bachelorette party any girl could dream of. One of our stops was Trader Todds, and it was nothing short of amazing!! They service and entertianment were great. Our waitress Sandy made it such a special night. If I could ever do it again, I'd spend my whole night at Trader Todd's. The bachelor party that was there at the same time didn't hurt. This is a great place for any party!!

I love the fresh fruit drinks!!!!!Sometimes you can catch a great singer so it's worth it to sit throught the okay singers. If you go during the week you have a better chance on seeing good singers. The beer garden is where I find the most fun in the summer. Can't wait for it to open this year!

Todd and Virginia are great people, but owning a bar in Chicago is a tough game, and they sometimes treated their regulars rudely for this reason.

It was no big deal. Back then, I would get into a mood and drink their cheapest whiskey while more or less checking people out, and this made people who didn't know me nervous, because I looked like de Niro in Taxi Driver.

I would usually come in alone although I was part of a rat pack in earlier years and this for a bar owner is another danger sign.

My sinister appearance, and the way I'd put Morrison singing This is the End on the jukebox would drive the 708 area codes out and as a straightforward business proposition they had more money to spend than me.

Most of the time, however, they treated us denizens OK. They'd even ask me to sing Send in the Clowns when the crowd looked to exceed fire code limits.

I no longer live in Chicago and I'm living on a faraway tropical isle because of the sort of crap I used to see on Rush street, from which the "old" place was mostly free. I'm sure the "new" place is great up there in Wrigleyville.

Todd and Virginia are two of the most fantastic people I know. They would never screw a teacher.

Only at Trader Todd's can you karaoke to Madonna, drink shots out of a water ski, and watch 17 year olds make out on the dance floor. It ROCKS!!!!

I should add that I was "Frenchie", the guy with the beret, during Trader Todd's glory days in the late 1990s.

I hope Mary is still the Karaoke dominatrix.

Just before the place closed its Dearborn location, I did notice that the staff had become more rude.

I haven't gone to the new location and don't plan to either.

I think in all fairness that the owners and the staff tried, in the mid-1990s, to create a friendly and more diverse place than the typical refuge for 708 area code jerks in the Rush street neighborhood.

However, they were taken advantage of too often, with the result that they became overly suspicious of their own patrons, more like the typical bar on Rush street.

That's Chicago for you. If you don't have any problems, some bum will make them for you so we can all be miserable SOBs, except for Studs Terkel.
