I was there for the first time this past Saturday and the snotty beeotch behind the counter barked at the hostess who was very sweet that nobody else could sit at the counter and needed to sit at a table. Perhaps you could ask me you obnoxious, no-mannered hag? It was 2:30 in the afternoon! Are you kidding me? I immediately walked out. How can snot like that work at such a place? A few of my friends recommended this place including one who used to work there. I was like WTF?...Learn some manners or get another job!

Part I (a vision) Restaurant's choose a face for their restaurant upon hiring of a hostess, and I must say, that although the wait was burdensome and the space quit cramped, I nearly experienced a hard-on prima facie when I saw this woman. Part II (the way things work) She wore dangling earrings, tight brown pants, and were the waitresses her backup dancers? Each waitress had her own pair of sparkling eyes, and as customer by customer placed their orders, made their complaints and filed in and out of the tiny restaurant, there could not have been a better or more arousing staff to accompany such an... uncomfortable experience. But the food struck me in the middle road. It wasn't special, although certainly above the rung of Denny's. I'd say natural bakeries and organic parfaits have climbed faster in conjunction with increasing appeal to the contemporary digestive tract/immune system, and they also-- they also happen to be just as expensive. Part III (on common ground) Toast was quality, but uncomfortable. There are a lot of basic hurdles to jump before this restaurant makes it over into the fast-lane. Not a breakfast to fawn over, but certainly, like I said, an arousing experience.

Upon entering the small and very cramped restaurant I noticed the eclectic group of people dining. This instantly made me feel like I was in ' the right ' place. But shortly there after my hopes were shattered when I discovered the waiting list. Over an hour wait at the nearby barney's and I was even more hungry but not for food but for nice designer fashion. But alas an hour was far to short a time to be away from toast for when I arrived back I still had to wait. WTF?! Here's an idea, take out the bar and put tables. Create a small island where the drinks can go and please get a decent espresso machine. Whoops, I am already venting and I at this point have not even sat... The menu features some nice dishes but nothing out of the ordinary for a breakfast place such as this. I ordered the Pancake Orgy along with some coffee. The Orgy was alright I myself did not climax upon eating the orgy but with some organic granola, syrup and other delight I could of been hard pressed to not. But with run of the mill granola and syrup this perfect on paper recipe was merely a wal mart interpretation. Not much is to be said my my dining experience here other than $2.50 for coffee?! Are you kidding me? Pick me up on clark has better coffee and it's cheaper. Go there. There will be less of a wait.

Go for the pancakes or french toast, as well as the chicken sausage. Eggs benedict also tasty, but the b-fast burrito is bland. Manager/waitstaff definitely favor FRIENDLY returning customers, so don't judge the place on your first experience. And if you show up with a bad attitude, you will likely get the same in return. Expect up to an hour wait for weekend brunch; but you can get seated quicker if you opt for the counter.

The hostess here is extremely rude, and has been so on both occassions I have been there. The food wasn't that great...not as creative and tasty as other spots around town. I would not recommend this place mainly because of the bad attitude of the manager.

Toast isnt racist! What a cheap shot for that reviewer to openly defame the establishment without any factual evidence such as physical behavior or verbal remarks. The reason that establishment does not split up larger parties is because the split parties will drag out their dining experience while they wait for their other half or halves to be sat and then finished with their meals. The restaurant can get more turns and make MORE MONEY accomodating tables of two. It's about turn and burn at that small place. If you have a huge party go to a physically larger venue. Im sorry with all the racism there is in the world that you had to use it as a poor playing card against a hard working business.

Recently Toast provided the rudest experience I've ever encountered at a restaurant. We walked in with a large group people. Upon being told that there was a several hour wait, we offered to split up in to smaller groups. They then said we weren't allowed to split up. This made no logical sense and was completely arbitrary (and clearly discriminatory to our multi-ethnic party). I would recommend boycotting this place until they become more inclusive to all races. We went down the street to Nookies (on Halstead) and had a fabulous meal with a wonderfully friendly waitstaff.

Toast is tasty, but small and cramped. The decor is also attractive, and certainly adds to the dining experience if you sit at the counter. Sitting at the tables are sometimes annoying when you're stuffed in like sardines and the soccer mom next to you just brought in 4 whiney kids while attempting to feed her newborn. Weekends can be a pain since the crowds are larger and there's typically a wait (that usually is outside... not so bad in nice weather, horrid in the winter). Summer is also nice since there is a backyard outdoor patio to dine at.

The food is good and fairly priced. Tasty and quite filling. The pancake orgy is my fave (mostly because that's the closest I'll ever come to actually participating in an orgy of any sort. Ha!). But the menu is the same regardless of time of year or what fruits may be in season. And if you're looking for a low-card place to dine... might as well keep on looking.
