I booked a cruise for 8/7/05. I was a mistake. I recommend no one take this cruise. From the start I knew it was going to be bad. We got there at 7:30 PM. The boat was scheduled to leave at 8 PM. We had to wait in line to pick up our tickets. I tried to pick them up a week earlier and was told I had to pick them up the same day. Well, the line was long and not moving. We finally got our tickets around 8 PM. Everything in the dinner came about 20 minutes apart. We were seated and 20 minutes later, we got salad, 20 minutes later, water, 20 minutes later, bread (I asked 3 times). I finally got up and went to the bar to get my drinks and the line at the bar took at least 20 minutes. Without any exaggeration, dinner was finally served at 10 PM. The food was good. No complaints there. By the end of the night, I did have 3 drinks on the tab with the server. She told me not to worry about it. She felt bad that they were so understaffed. I would say that this cruise is a good idea but Spirit of Chicago is not executing well. I would not waste my money on this disaster. I had to apologize to my date for the bad choice, repeatedly. There are better ways to spend $300.

I booked an afternoon cruise for 6/25/05. It was a disaster. I called to upgrade cruise to a dinner cruise at substantially higher cost was told me I could upgrade but would have to pay a penalty FOR CANCELLING THE AFTERNOON CRUISE. I said forget it. Ticket people at Navy Pier were very disorganized. It was a 90 degree day there was NO AIR CONDITIONING on for the entire cruise. It was so sickeningly hot that we could not even eat. Only 1 deck was occupied so it wasn't like the boat was just overrun making the air work overtime. We went topside to cool off & get a cocktail where the bartender & one of the crew were talking & every other word was a profanity -IN FRONT OF PASSENGERS! We ended up back down on the deck where we started out but outside. That is where we were when the boat came back into dock. The crew member Randy and the guy on the dock who tied up the boat were speaking with so much profanity that all my sister & Icould do was shake our heads. I couldn't believe the unprofessionalism. I wrote to the corporate office in Virginia & office here in Chicago & still havn't even received an apology. I can understand why only 1 deck was occupied - word of mouth has spread. This is the bottom of the barrel of the cruise boats docked at Navy Pier. Spirit of Chicago will only get negative comments from me. I tell everybody NOT to cruise with them.
