I had also read many reviews of the Riv before I came all the way from Minnesota. Yes, the paint was peeling, some of the seats were broke, the bathrooms were a little skanky, and it was hot... BUT... all of the above gave it character. $5 for a can of Miller is on the high side, and $1 for tap water is obscene, but the sound was great, the view from the balcony (at least the 1st few rows) puts you close enough to the band that you could almost jump on stage. Parking was a breeze, but expensive, at $20 per event. All in all, my take on the Riv is that she is like an old lady who has had a lot of fun in her life, and is now settled in with a few wrinkles and some age spots. She still is alive and well, she just don't look as pretty as she used to.

I really enjoyed my concert at the Riv, to be quite honest. The reviews I checked out before the show made the place sound like a bombed-out stink hole, and I was slightly nervous about attending the show because of this. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised, however. It was hardly in rough shape (peeling paint is not something I'm afraid of) and the seats in the balcony were amazing. Drinks were moderately priced too, compared to other rock venues I've been to. I mean, five dollar beers aren't cheap, but reasonable in comparison to other places. All in all, I enjoyed the experience there and would go back in a heartbeat.

I thought the Riv was an AWESOME venue. I just saw Queens of the Stone Age there on 10/25 and it was amazing. The acoustics, the ambiance, the size, it was perfect!! I couldn't have asked for a better experience!!!

The Riviera was the worst venue I have ever seen any band at. I went to see Phil Lesh & Friends last night, sunday oct. 7th, and while the show was phenomenal, the heat was unbearable. I didn't dance the entire time, just sat or stood still and was dripping after 10 minutes of being in there. Also, the security were assholes not letting you stand in aisles or off to the side, they said that to be on the floor of the venue you had to stand in the massive crowd. Also, whats with the Riv and the Vic not letting anyone out during the intermission? Do they understand how hot it is in there? I will NEVER go to see another show at the Riviera.

I had no problems with the Riviera. I saw the Arctic Monkeys there and it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. The service was great, I could see the stage the whole time, and it took us no time to get out. Only one tip, make sure you ware shoes and not flip flops.

I don't understand all the complaints. I LOVED this place, and I'm a - ::cringe:: - "suburbanite" who rarely leaves the comforts of Naperville! Sure, it's a little crumbly, and yes, the bathrooms feel like they are about 16 floors below the surface of the Earth, but it all just adds to the overall ambiance. After reading the reviews that you had to be super tall to see the stage, I made sure to wear my 4-inch heels just in case. We took seats in the middle of the balcony, though, and had an incredible view. The bands sounded awesome from up there, too. After the show, we walked right out with hardly any waiting. I loved it!

this is a good venue...if you get to the show as soon as the doors open and you go immediately to the stage to get right in front...overall the theater has very good acoustics and i was surprised...if youre short however get to the front unless you dont want to see the band. the security was okay but it was impossible to leave the place afterwards, it took at least 20 minutes to walk 20 ft..to sum it up in one sentence. its worth the trip if you like the band a lot and make sure to get there early
