Unless you're a fan of being on the receiving end of unwarranted attituted from snooty hipsters -- who aren't even all that hip on the store's stock -- stay away indeed.
The staff seems to be too busy perfecting the pained/snobby hipster/emo attitude to actually know anything about the books in the store or to treat customers with common courtesy.
Hit up the other indy stores in the city or visit booksense.com to support indy sellers

Not sure what "Mark's" experience was, or what he is into, but he's wayyyyyy off base from my experience. Quimby's is one of the best bookstores in the Country for independently published books, comics and other oddities. Due to the fact that many of these efforts are produced in a modern day "cottage industry" style of production, perhaps this is why some of the author's work was unavailable for Mark (wahhhh! I WANT MY BOOKS NOW!). All of the employees at Quimby's are friendly, and if you ask, they will always go out to their way to special order hard to find items. So go find out for yourself if it's as terrible as Mark says—Quimby's may not be for everyone, but is truly worth checking out.

what a wasted trip to this excuse for a bookstore. the selection is utter crap, they don't carry titles from authors who've appeared at their store (which tells me enough about their character that i feel strongly about urging people to stay away from this test tube bookstore), the staff is unfriendly and the neighborhood is overrated. i'll never go back to this place, and wouldn't recommend anyone else go either.
NOTICE: This is NOT the OFFICIAL Quimby's website. These reviews are a forum for opinions about the venue that other Centerstage Chicago users may want to know, not to order merchandise, apply for a job, etc.
