This place is a craphole to see good music. There are nice looking booths and tables in between the rows of uncomortable "waiting room" chairs crammed together. Don't you dare sit at a booth. They all have signs saying "Reserved". You get different vague answers why you can not sit at the booths ranging from "They are reserved for performer's family and friends" to "ask at the information window. You can not leave once you are in for any reason. If you do there is No Re-Entry. They hustle the drink buying Big Time. The waiters/waitresses all in black and just as many Security? in dark vests and white shirts staring at everyone's move. Even in the toilet. I heard it is owned by a big corporation, so I guess that is what to expect, Not User Friendly, like going to your first day on the job and getting all the rules laid out before you. There are some very good acts that perform there, but to be honest I'd rather listen on my own iPod or sound system and relax than to be at the Park West Inc, Corp. prison or whatever the deal is.

Most of their concerts are standing only. No seats. I don't do that anymore. Who wants to stand for hours AND pay to do it?

Great place to see an intimate show. Drinks leave a lot to be desired. Waitress had the personality of a dead mackeral. I could not taste the Grey Goose in my Grey Goose and splash of soda. Order a beer instead, blechhh, at least they can't cheat you on a bottle of Miller lite.

The Park West is a great place to see a concert. It's a very intimate venue and their really isn't a bad seat/spot in the entire place. The sound and lighting were great. I saw Mute Math with Shiny Toy Guns. Great show at a great concert hall.

The Park West is by far the best venue in the midwest. It combines the best elements of a number of other venues and typically showcases acts that just "fit" into it's super-chic setting. I have brought many friends into this place and they all react the same way... "WOW, this place is AWESOME." Yes it's true that drinks are on the high side and even ticket prices can be higher than other venues, but these fees are completely worth it. The sound is superb, the seating couldn't be more comfortable, and the staff always seems to have a smile on their faces. Since the smoking ban came into effect, the venue is much less hazy and stuffy and the ventilation isn't quite as overwhelmed. I highly recommend this venue to anyone interested in having an all-around great time. Intimate acts to rock bands, every show I've seen here has been better because of the venue. Hit the Park West for a truly unique concert expierience. www.jamusa.com for more info...

One of my top three Chicago music venues (the other two are Schuba's and The Vic). The room is square, and the stage is in one corner - so the audience is spread over 270 degrees. There is a "dance floor" that is only 2.5 feet below the level of the stage. Behind that are banks of risers with a mix of booths and tables. If the show is sold out, the booths are sold to people buying 4 or more seats at once. For some shows, the "dance floor" is covered with long tables and the viewing is excellent. But if there are no tables, and the "dance floor" is covered with people standing, NOBODY seated on the first riser level will be able to see ANYTHING. If you arrive at the Park West, and there are no tables on the floor, avoid the first level of risers. Go for the stools along the south wall, the balcony or the 2nd or 3rd tier of risers.

One other thing. The Park West has delusions of being a "night club" rather than a concert hall. So the drinks are insanely high prices. Early 2006 - US beer bottle - $5. White Russiun - $8. And bathroom attendents to tip.

But aside from the pricy drinks, it's a great place. Good sound system, friendly staff and - with the right seating layout (i.e. no "dance floor") one of the best places to see a show.

4/3/04 - I just picked up tickets to see Particle/Buckethead. I am excited to see both bands, but I paid more of my 15$ to see and hear the sweet sight and sound of Buckethead. I have a feeling Buckethead will open and Particle will close the show! Just know, I am sooo jumpy to see the Bucketbot and I know I'm showing up early!!
