Take my advise and AVOID THIS PLACE. This restaurant is part of the chain "Lettuce Entertain You". This chain of restaurants, including Mon Ami Gabi, offers overpriced, lousy, phony food, dressed up according to various "themes".

Dozens of flies were buzzing around our table when we ate here, and when we complained, all the manager did was say "Well, we are trying to deal with this".

We had to wait A REALLY LONG TIME for each of our courses, and when the food arrived, IT WAS WAY UNDERCOOKED. My quiche was really runny, and frankly I was afraid I would get sick from eatint it, but I had waited so long to get it, I ate it anyway.

My friend had the "French" onion soup, which had tons of completely tasteless cheese on top.

Our waitress had an excuse for the extremely long waits and undercooked, lousy-tasting food... she said "we are having a shift change right now". I didn't appreciate her telling us this. I don't really care what the restaurant's problem is... I and my friend were stuck with the crappy food, long waits and flies.

As I said, take my advise and avoid this place at all cost. And that goes for the other lousy Lettuce Entertain You restaurants as well.

If you are unfamiliar with French food and enjoy overpriced, over-rated establishments, then this is your place. Having just come back from a gastronomic 2 week journey eating my way through Paris, France, however, I believe Mon Ami Gabi is nothing like the food in Paris. Mon Ami Gabi's atmosphere is pretty, but not a true to the style of a French bistro or brasserie. The dress of the wait staff was correct and what you would find in Paris. But this is not real French food. I have given Mon Ami Gabi a second chance after a first disappointing experience. The quiche was flavorless and boring - I can make better at home. The crepes had no flavor and for a savory dish they made a sweet crepe instead of a savory crepe. The pommes frites are too curly and dried out. The waiter, however, was the only exception: he was just as stiff, snooty and unfriendly as the ones in Paris.

First of all Mon Ami Gabi is fun to say… but you won’t be saying too much after you sit down except for uh uh uh oui oui oui… Bon Appetite! This French bistro serves amazing food. If you have a beret a.) feel lucky that you can pull it off and b.) wear it! The interior of the restaurant is positively French.

The waiter will start you off with a fresh, warm baguette to nibble on. As a carb professional I would have to give the bread and butter a 5 as well!

Mon Ami Gabi is known for having a great selection of wines so ask what they recommend. If you are one to impress this is the place to be a wine snob. They bring around a wine cart to choose from.

The food is a little pricy. Whoever invented a la carte is a la stupid! I think it was the French. Regardless, throw your budgets away and go for the steak & frites. All of the steaks are amazing. The soups are thick and creamy. I highly recommend the mashed cauliflower as a side. If mashed cauliflower is healthy this one definitely fooled me.

I got carried away with the baguette and wine so I was not allowed to stay for dessert, but I dare to guess that the French desserts are exquisite.

This would be a great place for dessert and coffee with your great aunt or political conversations with your opinionated friends. Girls, feel free to wear that dressy scarf around your shoulders and bright red lipstick.

Oui! Mon Ami Gabi – translation – My Friend Gabi. Well, Gabi sure is a friend of mine!

Okay okay, so this review may be a little biased. To let all know, I am a classically trained french culinary artist. That being said, I know my french food. A friend of mine, in the same persuasion, and I had heard of this place, the great reviews, and decided to try it out. BIG MISTAKE. Please, please, please, do not take this for real french food. I thought it was, to say the least, god aweful. Things arrived cold, even partly frozen, half cooked, and slapped on a plate. And the to the other comments mentioning the overcrowding, and busboys etc. bumping into you, very true. Our waiter had very little knowledge of the menu, and was rather rude. To add insult to injury, when we discussed this situation with management, they too, were very rude. Mind you, we were NOT complaining, only giving a little constructive critisism, from one proffesional to another. We were offered a coupon for a free appetizer. After explaining that we did not want the coupon, we would definently not be returning, and that we only though they should know of the problems we recognized, they offered two. Yes, two free appetizers. I have not returned since, and would not recomend this place to anyone, ever.

Mon ami Gabi is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. For a pretty reasonable price, you get a very upscale dining experience. Food and environment will make you think you have been transported to Paris.

So-so pricey food in a crowded and noisy setting.

After reading everyone else's reviews, we were expecting this to be an ordeal, but it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable meals we've had in a long time. The only shortcoming was having to wait 15 minutes for our reservation to come up - but isn't that pretty typical on a Saturday night during primetime? Once seated at a nice table overlooking the park, we had a marvelous meal. The service was friendly, not pretentious like you sometimes get at French restaurants, and the prices were very reasonable. I think the key to a good experience here at MonAmiGabi is seating. Don't sit next to the kitchen doors! Make sure you state this when you make your reservation........and make them in advance, as it gets quite busy on the weekends. We'll definitely be back again.

Wonderful is an understatement for Mon Ami Gabi. Whoever does not like it does not deserve to eat at such a fine establishment. Furthermore, if you have a problem with the bus boys bumping into you, like the previous reviewer stated, you should go eat at your local McDonalds where you will not have that problem.

These reviews underneath must have been written by some candy-assed patrons who are used to lead an artsy-fartsy life. Mon Ami Gabi is a great place to go out to eat and the staff is very accomodating and understanding. ***** Review All The Way!

The restaurant does not honor its reservations and appears to honor friends of management. They overbook and then are rude to those with reservations. we were a party of four dalayed 45 minutes. Our friends, a party of four were delayed 50 minutes. A party of seven scheduled for the same time frame were delayed one hour and fifteen minutes and left in frustration. Management threatened to call police when we complained. We are long time customers going back twenty years. Management was hostile and extremely aggressive. We will not return and we suggest that others from out of town and from Chicago avoid this restaurant.
