I'm one of Little Jim's oldest customers among others. I'm 66 and going strong, however, I moved to Phoenix in 1996, not at all like Chicago. Little Jim's is one of the most friendliest places where you can meet really great people. I know the owner personally and have for many years. He is one of the greatest people you will ever meet that has a business. He is always caring for others needs. He has raised millions of dollars for people that are in need. I can't tell you enough good things about him. Just the greatest. Try the bar out and you'll have a good time.
Alias, Ernestine, however, I'm butch. Right.

I have found little jim's to be a lot of fun. BUT I do have to question some of their policies....Barred for life? Everybody does something stupid in their 20's. But short of murder no one expects that at 50! Life term for spiting, slapping, getting to loud? Oh my God just chop their nuts off. Way to many aborted nights. I would have hoped that "Little Jim's" "staff" would have grown up too! Maybe someone could create a "Little Jim's Barred list" to tell their stories. "Little Jim's Sucks" I can only hope that this crap ends soon. My personal favorite: Someone flipped off a bartender 25 years ago and sadly the bartender has been dead for 10 years. I wish I could understand their madness.

As an out of towner who has been to Chicago umpteen time for queer film-fests and to visit friends, Li'l Jim's is one of the friendliest. I went once on Easter Sunday and befriended the Imperial Court (who ended up buying ME drinks) and we had just a grand ol' time. Another time, I met some hot shirtless rough-and-tumble looking guy and we had a very amicable few games of flirty pool, albeit alas nothing else. And yet another time I met some cute little young-in who invited me to his apartment just a few doors down for some closer encounters.
I think anywhere can be fun depending on who you go with. When you're alone, those tables can turn, sometimes decidely for the worse. This is a friendly place!, especially if you're friendly. Some of the other bars within walking distance aren't AS friendly. Not that they're not, they're just not as friendly.
This is a great place for cocktails by yourself if you're looking to meet new friends in Shy-town. I highly recommend it.

Set in the midst of the newer, fresher, more modern bars of the Halstead strip, there's just something about Little Jim's that makes it timeless. Oh, wait a minute, I know what it is! It's a meat market...and not ashamed of it. Kind of dark, definitely seedy and inexplicably inviting, Little Jim's is open, friendly and charming. It's got the whole "hooker-with-the-heart-of-gold" thing going on--yeah, you know she's a ho', but so what...she's fun. The drink prices are sweet, the porn is raunchy, the jukebox selections are contemporary and the video bowling game is addictive. As for the so-called "meat" on the market...well, sometimes bologna will just have to do in a pinch.
