That evening we were celebrating my mom's birthday. A day ahead I called to reserve a table and everything was setup for us. When six of us came to the restaurant we were greeted by, I believe, the owner's wife, and escorted to the main room. We ordered the appetizers and the main entree, and enjoyed our evening since the restaurant was almost empty. Later the owner came and almost immediately came to our table and said that the waitress(!) made a mistake and she sat us at the wrong table and that we should move to the hall (next to the exit) since this place was reserved for a some kind of performance by a Romanian stand-up comic (I guess). We were told that these seats were sold for 20 dollars each and if we refuse to move we have to pay 20 dollars each for this performance. Than he just wanted us to move. We asked him how he can solve the problem...he said he will buy us a drink (!). We had to pay for appetizers, drinks and soups and leave. When we were getting out he said that our food is ready...but it was a little bit too late. This is not the first time this owner is mistreating his customers according to some reviews I found online; so, if you are planning to go there be warned that something like this or similar can happen to you too. Don't spend your money (Believe me this was not the cheapest restaurant to eat!)in the place where the owner does not appreciate it. This review will be posted on every available website allowing to leave reviews for restaurants.

Continental Cafe is one of only a small number of European Style Cafe's in the Chicago area specializing in live music and delicious Romanian cuisine. The food is great, the serving impecable. I enjoy every moment I stayed there. I'm sure you'll all love it, too.

I went to Branko restaurant a private party) and I have had the worst experience in my life. Everything sucks here :food, service, price. Save your time and money for other places..... I would most certainly not recommend this place to anyone. IT'S A DISASTER !.....

The owner of this place is a sleaze bag. All he cares about is making a dollar more here and there, and does not care about his customers. Most of the food is not fresh (more likely old and spoiled). When I got food from there it smelled and tasted bad. When I had a private party there it turned out horrible. I had unlimited food and drinks and he did everything possible not to serve my guests with alcohol and food, so that it comes out cheaper for him. Whatever you do, please do not have a private party there. He will make false promises, he is a crook. Do not eat there either, food is questionable. I saw that his ex-cook posted somewhere that the owner made him serve spoiled food. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

My wife and I, together with a German friend, decided to "go Romanian" one day. So we went for a late lunch at Continental Cafe. There were only a few customers, given the time (around 4 pm). Nevertheless, the place has a pleasant ambiance, which I am certain comes out profusely during timely lunch and dinner hours. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The menu is well organized, bilingual, with detailed English translations of the varied traditional Romanian fare. The menu choices are affordably priced. We were offered a lunch special for soup, appetizers, and entree for only $10. And the quality of the food was excellent. Toward the end of our meals (we ended up asking for to-go boxes), we were served a hearty assortment of complimentary traditional cookies which we enjoyed with Romanian coffee (similar to Turkish coffee, froth-topped, made in a kettle on the stove top). Bottom-line, a wonderful dining experience!
