I am not a critical person by nature, nor do I ever post reviews on websites. Until now. Lawry's The Prime Rib in LA is absolutely the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Detailing all the things I hated about it would be to prolong the agony of the experience. Suffice it to say that you would have a better time stabbing your eyes out with chilled forks than being paid to eat here.

I went there a couple nights ago, not expecting too much. For some reason, it was slow for a Friday (aka-not too many tourists) but better for us. Our server was very friendly and chatty in a good way. The prime rib was great. I got med rare and bf got medium - both looked and tasted the way we wanted it. I added the creamed corn and it might be all butter and cream, but sooo good! I couldn't finish my prime rib (excellent leftovers -warmed for steak salad!) Ambiance is that of a fine dining room but wihtout the pretentions. We thought prices were reasonable considering dinners come w sides (salad, ykshire pudding, mash). We will go back with friends when we hope it wont be too touristy.

The ambiance is fine - the food way below expectations. The prime rib was room temperature and very tough. Just to add to difficulty the meat is served swimming in some sort of artifical tasting liquid on a plate way too small. Eventually part of your meal ends up on the table or your lap depending on your luck. Spinning salad is silly and bland and please skip the deserts. Really a poor experience

We decided on Lawry's for lunch during a Magnificent Mile shopping excursion, based on two great Lawry's experiences in Las Vegas. To our disappointment, the spinning salad, sourdough bread, and Yorkshire pudding are not available during the luncheon hour. Granted the $20 rate for the "Lawry's Cut" is $12 less than the dinner rate, which includes the three missing items. The thick chips served as appetizers were great, though some slices were a bit salty. However, in addition to not having these three great sides, the meat was not very lean. While tasty and juicy, there was simply too much waste to justify the cost. The Chicago ambience was fabulous, especially the open staircase to the upstairs rooms and rest facilities.

I've never written a restaurant review, but the meal I had recently at Lawry's demanded a review. While I admit the place is impressive, the meal we had was far from it. First of all, the restaurant had a strange odor, one that usually comes from food being left around. The prime rib entre comes with a "spinning salad" drenched in a french type dressing. Awful. The prime rib, cut from a rolling cart (and sitting there presumably all night), looked like it was cut with an axe. I had asked for medium, yet it was swimming in a combination of blood and some type of steak sauce. One of the worst cuts of meat I ever had. My wife had the smaller cut, which was much better. The side choices ($5 each) weren't noteable either. Overall, we couldn't have been more disappointed in a meal, especially at a restaurant with the signature name of Lawry.

Been to many Lawry's (LA, Vegas, etc.). No one does Prime Rib better than Lawry's. Always a great meal. Perfect for large groups or intimate 2-somes.
