2/3/2009 My grandparents and father owned and operated a butcher shop here. My parents briefly operated a butcher shop with sawdust, butcher block, scales and glaas-front cases in the 1940's. Grandparents, Peter and Minna (Guth) Andresen may have built the structure in 1900. See any dates on the building to verify? They and their son, Fred, rest now at Graceland Cemetery.

Hands down, worst bar in Chicago.
I would not recommend anyone to visit this bar. Not only is it expensive and FILTHY on the inside, but the staff here is one of the rudest I've ever come across. I witnessed a bartender refuse to make another drink for a patron, despite the fact that there was a HAIR in her drink. When the owner came out, he basically said she was out of luck.
I recommend you pass by this place and visit better Southport mainstays like Cullen's or Blue Bayou.

The owners of the bar physically assaulted me. I am currently recovering from a black eye and bruises on my chest

Went in for the first time in years last week, still a great place to have a drink! Miss the days of the Scottish bartenders though, esp Tristan, he was lovely.

Haven't been in long time since the days of Simon M (miss that cutie!). Great place to have a party or have a pint with some friends.

Dude - HyeBar rocks, just like Glasgow. The only things I can recommend to make it any better are
1) Euchre tutors - I am tired of getting smoked. If there were a way to get someone to help my game, while at the HyeBar, this would be awesome.
2) internet access - like here across the pond, where I have no friends, I like to drink and surf the internet. If Hunter could make these 2 meet by putting in an internet cafe, this would be great. Maybe I can meet someone, maybe "the one", online?
3) towels at each table (no explanation necessary)

I love the HyeBar. It increases my self esteem because I drink Bushmills with people my own age instead of my 3 children (I still act 5, but....). I go every time my wife lets me (once a year). Hell, Im drunk now. Gotta go, the kids need a ride to school.
VIVA La St. Pats!!!

Love the place. Hunter is awesome. Be careful on St. Pattys Day as the place gets pretty nutty. Hunter will expel you if you get out of hand but is really pretty fair. Beware of Green Havoc in the bathrooms, if you can get past the locked door.
