This is one of the few genuine gay bars where you can meet locals. It's a dive bar, but no poseurs with attitude here. Very friendly locals and staff will make you feel welcome. PS Also plenty of Loyola University students drop in on weekends. Saturdays and Sundays are the best.

My partner and I travel quite a bit and like to see what a town is really like (stay away from the "touristy" places). This weekend we visited Chicago and stopped by the Anvil. We found a great mix of people and music. The staff and patrons were very warm and easy to talk to. Anyone visiting Chicago who wants to get a feel for the real character of this town and its wonderful people should give this place a try. It is by far my favorite of any bar we've visited in any town anywhere!

The Anvil is a nice, friendly bar as I read in the review. More emphesis should be placed on the fact that this is a GAY bar. A very gay bar. On both television sets there were no less than eight men doing unspeakable acts to one another. I likened it to opening my eyes while swimming in the ocean.

No matter how many times I've tried before, I keep attempting to take a peak underwater without goggles. And each time, I keep getting burned. Eventually, the salt water wins and I am left blinded and confused. And each time the shiny image from the corner of the room catches the corner of my eye, I instintively turn to it, hoping it could be anything but, I don't know, a huge gay orgy. But alas, Sportscenter doesn't play too well at the Anvil. Unless those actually were the Yankees...I do think I saw a guy called A-Rod getting a reach around...

This is the most friendly neighborhood bar I've been in. I'm new to the neighborhood and I was treated like I was a regular at this bar. I was there during the morning hours, about 10:00 a.m., and the place was jumping. The bartender, and I believe his name was Flowers, was more than entertaining as well as effecient. I shall tell more of my friends about this place.

The Anvil is a very fun, refreshing place to hang out. There is a less-than-zero attitude element and the best (if slightly pricey) jukebox I have ever seen. The bartenders are all personable as well as cute, and if you go there at least three times, and you are amenable to good times, expect that at least two different guys will buy you a shot. There is a wide range of fun and or/interesting personalities that hang out at this place. And the bar itself is just kind of a throwback to the dingy bars from those old Martin Scorsese movies. If this appeals to you, then come over and buy me and my friends a shot. You will get 3-7 in return.

If you like holes in the walls like I do then this is your place. They no longer play oldies but have a great state of the art jukebox in the corner with well over 10,000 songs to choose from and a supersearch feature that downloads whatever you can't find. Of The clients are generally very friendly, welcoming and attitude free. The bartenders are also very friendly, easy to chat with and a pleasure to be around. If your ready for a change and want to have a drink in a nice atmosphere with friendly people then please check it out.
