I've been coming here since 1984. It's the best and the food is fantastic

I really wonder if the bar can handle a diverse crowd (about a couple of years back some of the 'diverse' folks I knew stopped going to the bar though they were regulars of the place. I guess they shared the same feeling). Most of the folks you see are the oldies and when you walk into the bar most of them, particularly male oldies, turn their head around because you are 'diverse'. Not such a good feeling.
The young bartenders are good guys, however, there's an old veteran bartender who is sometimes out of his mind and not treating the customers right. They won't listen if you complaint against him because they think he is the best they have.
When it comes to food, it would be the last stop you would make. Don't try the wing o fire. Too much of a sauce to feel the chicken.
Servers are fine. Good folks. Tip them good as some of them are students.
Food takes time to cook.
And its a non smoking bar. I would say its okay for students at SXU to hang around the place as it is near. Otherwise, it is pretty laid back.
Rather go to bourbon 115th which is near (but big and sometimes rather crowded).
Trust me you will be disappointed at gilhooleys grand salon. No action. It is conservative in many senses.

Re: Jesse says: You seem to have such a foul manner that you probably drove everyone out of the bar!

Hi everyone!
Well, I WAS a Gilhooley! Well, I always will be a Gilhooley in one way! I've never been to Chicago but, as my big brother, Neil, said back in '02, its worth a visit someday! He's still not been mind!

Well nice to be in the company of so many Gilhooley's. There is a small cluster of us around Edinburgh, Scotland. Once I was in Boston and only found 11 Gilhooleys in the phone book but in Edinburgh there used to be 55. It is an Irish name so allows me to enjoy the odd Guinness and feel homesick while drinking.

I will definately be out in Chicago at some point and stop by! But for now... I've been doing genealogy and I would like to connect with more Gilhooleys. My great-grandfather's was Peter Gilhooley, who married Agnes Shields, and begat four children. Peter was killed on the railroad in 1909. If you can connect with these people... please contact me!!

What's up Gilhooley's of the world. It's Sean from South Florida representing all the Irish lads from Lietrim and Roscommon, and to all the other Gilhooley's CHEERS!!! When I make up to the saloon, I promise cold ones on me.
