I will be fair and admit that I didn't have the famous steak here. Someone else was paying for my dinner, and I couldn't bear to order any of the meat items, whose prices exceeded what I spend in a week (or two!) on groceries. I had the eggplant parmigiana (just about the cheapest dinner on the menu, at $18 or so), which was greasy and overcooked and contained about twice as much cheese as eggplant. As a group, we also shared a plate of steamed broccoli. I love broccoli. What I don't love? Ten dollars for a plate of FROZEN BROCCOLI. Frozen vegetables have a very distinct flavor, and no restaurant that thinks as highly of itself as this one should ever condescend to serve such a thing.

Furthermore the restaurant was incredibly crowded and cramped, and the service was spotty at best. Even if the steak is as amazing as they say (and my meat-eating friends did enjoy theirs), I honestly can't say the rest of the experience would be worth it.

Great place with atmoshpere. Not sterile like a lot of new era steakhouses. Can't understand the complaints. They pour a good drink, they cook a superior steak. Great service. Just go and enjoy the experience.

This place has great steaks and that is why you come here. The sausage and peppers are an excellent side, but for the most part their sides are on par with an average restaurants and the selection is poor.

Their salads are a bit reminiscent of what you would get in a small town, but their dressings are excellent.

The dining room has charm in that it is so old school, but if you are looking for something fancy or contemporary, G&G's is not for you.

The only reason you come is for a massive piece of steak. You can get friendlier service, better variety, and a nicer atmosphere, but you would be hard pressed to find a superior steak.

Steak was excellent, similar to Gibson's, Keffer's, Ruth Chris, or Smith & Wollenski. Old Chicago Steak house style, food was excellent. On the night I was dining Keanu Reeves was sitting at the next table.

I don't know what all the hype is about. I wish I had the chance to taste the food, but we arrived for an 8:30 "reservation" only to be seated at 9:45. The waiter didn't bother coming to our table until 10:00 by which time we had lost our appetite for this overpriced steak house and it's insultingly poor service. With all the other great steak houses in Chicago, I don't know how G&G stays open.

Last week, last month, last year: everytime I eat at Gene's, the meal is great. The best filet in town. Overpriced? Sure. Aren't Gibsons, The Chop House, Ruth's and Wildfire?

Not much ambiance, not many friendly waiters. Tough.

G&G is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The staff was professional and orderly. Don't listen to these whiny people who don't know anything about real Chicago dining.

G&G is the best 'True' steak lover's club in the world. The last of the great independants stands on its own two feet and neglects no aspect of the dining experience. Locals and travelers for 30+ years have found this house to be superior to all others. The others may be in the 'Flashy' neighborhood, but last I checked that didn't make my steak taste better.

Hey G&Gs is the very best. We go there everytime we're in Chicago and have never been disappointed. The steaks are excellent, and the wait staff is not your run of the mill college student who is bugging you every two seconds with trivial conversation. The G&G guys are professionals from the word go. They anticipate your needs and take care of them without a word, so you can enjoy your meal and conversation without interruption. G&G is TOP NOTCH!

Don't bother with G&G. While the meat is prepared well, is it worth it? $42.50 for lamb chops with an iceberg salad. Served by absurdly inattentive waitor. A waste.
