I was so excited at the possiblity of finding a decent banh mi so far south of Lawrence Avenue when I discovered the store front of Bon Bon on my way to my usual veggie haven Handlebar. To my delight when I came in yesterday there were 3 vegetarian options available. So, of course, I had to order them all and share my treasures with my co-workers. The bread is from Nhu Lan bakery, giving the sandwich that much desired flakey crust. Although some reviewers have said that the fillings were inadequate, I found my sandwich overflowing with goodies. My co-workers could not get over how delicious the sandwiches were because they had never had banh mi, and I was so relieved to not have to think about riding my bike up to Lawrence just for a sandwich anymore. Bon Bon also has many Asian snacks and drinks, including my favorite Mr. Brown coffee in a can. The space Bon Bon has is very inviting with lots of little tables that aren't too close together and a lounging area for playing the board games and books that are available. It seems that the owners want this place to be more than just a sandwich shop but be a communal spot, with art work for sale and a collection of anime dolls to admire. I like it so much I am going there again today.
