After having eaten at Army & Lou's at least half dozen times a year for many years, I hadn't been there for more than 15 years. I should have known better. Generous portions of fresh, excellently prepared and delicious food served by wonderfully knowledgable and friendly wait staff. If you have never been or haven't been for a while, go soon!

WHERE CAN I START! I am a jazz singer from Michigan. While visiting Chicago my brother took me out to breakfast at ARMY & LOU'S. Little did I know how the word SOUL FOOD would take on a whole new meaning. I am not a pork chop fan...don't eat it years at a time, but my brother prompted me into trying the pork chops with my breakfast. The meat literally was the most succulent, delicious, fall off the bone pork chops I have ever had in my life! A man at the next table was eating eggs, grits and ox tails! Where do you EVER see THAT at a restaurant! I am forever hooked on this little place with the ambiance of a Mom and Pop store. I am anticipating my next Chicago visit in another month, I went on line to find if they had a web site. While there I found that they have a jazz lounge, where it IS I don't know because the place is so small...but I don't care...I would do my jazz singing on top of one of the tables if I had to (smile)...so I definitely plan to make arrangements if at all possible to sing at my favorite little soul food spot in Chicago. My next Food Review will be about little restaurants with BIG FLAVOR...OH I forgot to say...I am also a writer and author and I write about FOOD!("HOW TO GET A GUY IN 10 MEALS OR LESS") as I was saying...my next Food Review will be about ARMY & LOU'S with 5 stars behind it's name! So keep the Pork Chops hot and form the line AFTER me...ARMY & LOU ...I'M ON MY WAY!!!

I hadn't been to Army & Lous's in years. Now I go after Church on Sunday's and I find the breakfast food is delicious. They have homemade biscuts and waffle's and chicken, Salmon Crouquets and Parker House Links and Hash brown potatos. The price is cheap and the food is Great! I am glad to have re-discovered Army & Lou's.

Eat there on a regular basis. The very finest in soul food ever! Love the cobblers too. Service has picked up recently in that you are seated and served a bit faster. Thank god! I just found out that they are like the oldest soul food establishment in the midwest. They are 60 years old this year. I can remember whem my mother and father took me to Army & Lou's every Sunday after church when I was little and that was a very long time ago. I highly recommend a visit.

The food is the bomb! Did a take out for family members for Easter and everyone loved it! Delicious soulfood to eat there or take out. We had the turkey w/ dressing, candied yams, greens, corn rolls, and mac n cheese and I can't forget the peach cobbler. Best soul food in Chicago! Highly recommended.

I visited Army and Lou's about 35 or so years ago and it was great. I am still sending people there who leave NJ to visit Chicago on business. I hope to return and see how they are doing. I think I remembered "buffet sytle" when I was there. We had a large business luncheon then, maybe that was the reason for the buffet. September 4, 2004 Bob

I wish I could rate the place but I couldn't since no one ever came to serve me. I was promptly given water and a menu. What was on the menu sounded very pleasing. I was planning on ordering the smothered chicken w/ steamed rice but no one ever came to take my order. The water was not the best but what do you expect from tap water? I kept hearing people in the back mentioning, "Who has table 3?" After looking around, I put 2 and 2 together and noticed, I was table 3! The place was nearly empty on a Saturday night. You could see tumbleweed passing through the restaurant. I started my stopwatch and for 5 minutes, I was not attended by a single person. That is not including the estimated 7-8 minute wait prior to starting my stopwatch. I got out and simply left. No need to complain to a manager or anyone else, I just went to Subway and spent a lot less money as opposed to what I've what have spended here at Army and Lou's. So I would like to say thank you for helping me save $15.
