Melvin is awesome, and as one reviewer noted, he is very friendly also. For a long time he and the Slack Band have been my favorite act in Chicago.

I only recently got turned on to Melvin Taylor. My regret is that I didn't do it sooner. This man is amazing! His riffs are fantastic. I think the way he incorporates his guitar abilities into the blues brings a whole new meaning to the genre. Whenever he may come to Memphis next time, I will surely be on the front row.

Yeah, for people who have no idea about music especially playing guitar , he is great because he can make his guitar scream. That's easy shit... you just need to have the right sound effect to do it.

For people who know about playing guitar, he is just a show off and can't really play properly.

I was recommended by someone to see him at the Rosa's Lounge. so I went... I was hopong to see a good guitarist from Chicago, but he was SHIT...!!! He thinks he is good, but he was only playing fast but improperly scrabbing the guitar fretboard and missing notes that he ment to play.

Fuckin' Shocking man.... I can play guitar so I can tell when someone play properly or only showing off.

    Very sad....!!!

I haven't been astounded by too many modern guitarists, but Melvin Taylor is something else. He picks up notes so close, then delivers them with such casual abandon. And then the screams....But he could learn from an earlier master, the incomparable Roy Buchanan. Buchanan was as technically proficient as Taylor is, but his playing was ever so soulful. Melvin needs to add some more eeriness.

Melvin Taylor is a great guitarplayer, even in Belgium on the delirium blues festival he was wonderful. He is always doing new licks on the guitar. Friendly, when you ask him to sign his latest cd ! Melvin, I'm a great fan of your music and band!

Melvin Taylor is in a word..magical. Truly incredible, jaw-dropping, mesmerizing guitar work. For guitar and blues lovers, one live Melvin experience will forever change the way you feel about blues, and indeed life itself.

I must have seen Melvin play at Rosa's 25 times over the past 10 years and he just keeps getting better and better. He is by far the best Blues Man alive today. His music and passion should only be heard live, and he needs to visit the Portland Blues Festival again because he rocked that city on 2001 and opened a lot of eyes to real blues!

If you haven't seen or heard Melvin Taylor play then you have yet to experience the greatest Jazz/Blues player to have ever picked up a guitar. Throw Wes Montgomery, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Jimi Hendrix in a blender, hit high chop, and out comes Melvin. A unique blend of rich jazz chords, smokin solos, and jaw dropin chops. Melvin will leave you paralyzed. Within 5 inutes of the first set you will not be able to speak. If you want to see him you'll more than likely have to hit Rosa's on the West side of Chi. I did catch him in SF a few weeks ago so he may be touring....Check the Rosa's web site for details...
