My name is Jean S. Coopier- I'd like to submit this review of Erin McDougald's recent performance at The Joynt- My friend took me to The Joynt to hear this young woman's band this past Tuesday- He's been a big fan for many years- It was better than I could have hoped it would be- She wooed everyone in the room with her heavenly voice & radiant/classy look!-

She was reverent to the standards but managed to make each song unique from the previous one and all of them were done inherently in her own chameleon-like style- The different sounds she gets out of her voice is amazing- Erin McDougald sings a Bossanova better than most jazz singers I've heard- Her bebop styling is technically solid & intriguing- She swings and scats marvelously- But her way with a ballad is unbeatable!- She's funny with her off the cuff commentaries and exchanges with her audience & she's gracious enough to personally greet people in the audience on her breaks- If I had to compare her to the 'greats' I'd say she's a cross between the serene coolness of Irene Kral (not to be confused with Diana Krall) & the spicy gusto of Carmen McRae- with the sex appeal of a young Liz Taylor or Rita Hayworth even- See her
