Ever since 5 Loaves relocated from 71st and South Shore to 75th and King Drive, it has not been the same. The food didn't taste the same and the dining experience was no longer the same. On 71st, there was a distinct separation between the dining and waiting area for those who were ordering to go. If you were ordering to go, you were not sitting in the mix of those dining in which I prefered. It seemed intrusive no matter the side of the table I sat. On 71st, the dining area felt warm and cozy within the bright red walls. Not anymore. It feels cold and distant. I was awfully disappointed when they moved. 5 Loaves was my favorite restaurant as it was the only south side alternative to gyros, submarine, and Harold's chicken, the typical south side fares.
However, despite my disappointment I decided to give it another chance. I ordered one of my favorite dishes: Fried Chicken Tender salad to go. When I got home with mouth watery anticipation, I took the first bite and choked. Literally. The chicken didn't taste right. It didn't taste fresh. In fact, it tasted down right spoiled. I haven't been back since and that was over a year ago. I wish them well in their new location, but I think it will prove to be a poor decision.
