I've been to O'Callaghan's about 5 or 6 times now. Has a nice interior that is long and narrow with a very large bar to sit down at. Nice neighborhood bar feel, not a dive at all. The collection of beers on draft and bottle is decent, but nothing to write home about. Music is provided by a jukebox which can be good and bad. I was there last night (a Sunday) and the music initially was outstanding, but later dropped off as the crowd changed and consequently so did the jukebox plays. I hadn't been to O'Callaghan's in about a year, but I wanted to go somewhere close and I always remembered having a good time there so I figured I'd come back. This time around I was disappointed with the beer prices. Draft Blue Moon was the special at $5, and I wanted something a little cheaper, so I ordered an Old Style bottle. It was $5 too! I know this is Chicago, but $5 for a low-end bottle on a Sunday night is a little steep. Bottom line it's a good atmosphere, good service, good music (depending on the crowd), but don't expect any great drink deals.

Tried to get into this place tonight around 7:00. Wanted to watch a ballgame with my wife and kids. White Sox playing Detroit. We're from Detroit. Had walked past the place maybe 8-10 times in our travels this week. Looked like MY kind of place. Was told before I got in that it was not kid friendly and was not allowed in. Had 8 and 10 year old kids with me who've spent plenty of time in bars with me in Detroit. As have I. Tried gently to let the bouncer know that it wasn't a big deal...we could deal with it...and he was beligerent. Wouldn't let us in. We were staying in a hotel around the corner, as mayme are you. So if you're in the area and think you've come across a nice neighborhood joint, forget it. Business must be good. A cop in the area redirected us to the Rock Bottom Brewery. Great place. Great beer...try their IPA...they were happy to take our money and we were happy to pass it on.

Went to O'Callaghans after pizza at Mother Hubbards and NCAA game. O'Callaghans has one of the greatest looking , long elegant bars in it that I have ever seen. Nice place , crowded and reasonably price. The chicken tenders were excellent. We really liked the two places we went on Hubbard St. They were very down to earth and felt local.
