best italian bakery by far, i know some distant family of the owners and theyre authentic italian all the way. i recommend the U shaped cookies filled with creme, huge and delicious, or the white chocolate filled ones. make sure you go to the d'amatos in the 1100 block though, the one on the 1300 block is another branch of the family but not as good as the original.

Once you've had their breads, everything else falls short. D'Amato's is the Gold Standard. You can make a meal out of bread, butter and wine. And the next day, lightly toast what remains and slather with butter. I drive 45 miles a couple of times a year just to get this great bread.

TO EACH TO MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND, BUT WHEN I SAW THAT THE 2ND KEY INGREDIENT ON D'AMATO BREAD WAS POTASSIUM BROMATE.....I CHANGED TO ANOTHER BRAND. THE BREAD IS THE RIGHT TEXTURE, GREAT AROMA....BUT THIS INGREDIENT IS OUTLAWED IN CANADA AND OTHER COUNTRIES. I WONDER HOW LONG THIS STUFF WILL BE IN BREADS? D'AMATO LOOKS GOOD, TASTES GOOD, BUT I AM ONE OF THOS INGREDIENT READER. CIAO! DLL

Every trip back to the city includes a stop at D'Amatos. I've eaten more of their stuff on the expressway driving with my knees...I should be ashamed! Love seeing those black foccacia pans that have never been washed...seasoned for life!

Perfectly done breads for your tailgate. Order ahead, then stop by on your way to Soldier Field and do it right. Long French for the "sassage", great rolls for the steak sammies, everything is baked fresh and straight out of the oven. Well worth the trip, and not that far off the Kennedy at Ogden. Your guests will rave about it. Don't forget to buy an extra loaf so you can rip off a couple hunks on the way. Absolutely delicious!

This place is the best!!! Ever since I can remember I've been going to this D'Amato's. Their pizza is unique, tastes great! Just thinking about makes me crave it.
