Something terrible happened to me at Crobar. The people working at the coat check lost my coat, a present which my mother had given me for Christmas a year before. Not only did they not apologize for being inept and losing my jacket, they actually accused me of lying and trying to steal a coat from the coat check. The so called manager working at the coat check was surly, vulgar, and completely indifferent to my plight. I think it is just ridiculous that I paid $4 to check my $200 coat, only to find it missing. Not only that, but nobody even tried to help me during the situation; instead the employees yelled at me and even swore at me for refusing to leave without my jacket.

I held my birthday celebration on Feb. 29th at Crobar and it was totally awesome. Lori, the party organizer, set me up with an open bar package, which included cover and a champagne table for a very reasonable price per person. I have to admit that from reading the other posts, I was a little concerned that my celebration was going to go totally wrong. But, I am happy to report that it went very smooth. The door, bar and wait staff were very gracious and welcoming. All my guests got in without any trouble, the agreed upon price was honored without any confusion and the drinks were great.

They issued my guests 4 drink tickets for the 2 hour open bar. We were told that when we used them up, we could come back and get more. I have to admit that I was worried that we were going to have a problem getting more, but again, I was wrong. We just went up to the cashier and he gave us more tickets without any problems/questions.

Again, I just want to recommend Crobar to anyone else who wants to truly celebrate their birthday for a very reasonable price. I definitely will host another party there again!

In closing, contact Lori at 312-266-1900 and say Franco sent you.

Crobar NYE 2007- sucked! We paid for VIP and did not receive items that were offered from the advertisements. No food was ever passed around during the time I was there. "Premium" bar consisted of one type of vodka and limited other drinks. Coat check was extra and there was no special enterance. People had to wait to get into the VIP area even though they paid extra for VIP. Will never go again and will tell eveyone else not to go either.

I agree with many people above, not only is this place racist, it has arrogant, incompetent, pretentious staff. I booked my bday party here and not only did they get my name wrong (so no one else at the door managed to get in free) they did not come thru with drink bracelets and instead gave bogus tickets for drinks that were weak and were good onyl until midnight (by the time we were there it was 11:30pm). When my hispanic friends came to the door they got tickets for free and when my black friends came to the door, they were going to charge them not only for the entrance but for the tickets to drink (which was optional). When I went outside to inquire about the confusion, they told me to 'stop complaining, go inside and drink!' At the end of the night when I asked to speak with the manager or know his name, all staff suddenly forgot managements name including their own. Do Not Book a Party Here!

A lot of older women in there prowling for younger men... very creepy. Weak drinks.. oh and don't count on meeting Luciana Barroso here, it's Chicago, not Miami...

The bathrooms on the second floor do not have locks -- the black guy standing in front of them can enter the bathroom and find you in very in less than ideal positions...

Hey guys, Crobar is a place that's very picky about who they want in there- so be careful.

This place caters mostly to people who like to dance and for those who want to watch them dance. Also, expect to come in groups and pay for a table- that's who they want, and it's how they make their money.

If you're a SINGLE MALE, or with a group of single males, don't expect to get in- you'll just be stuck waiting in line like an IDIOT for a HOUR OR TWO- even if you are on some promoters "guestlist". With your name on a guestlist you got a 50/50 chance.

You'll need a female or be female to get in this place. Women that show up are able to walk in immediately! I agree with the other reviewers that said Crobar does this to give the impression that they are a club for straight people. That's why large numbers of single guys wait outside- they use them to help attract the closet homosexuals. ("Wow, look at the sausage-fest!")

If you get inside, what you can expect is lots of punks, juiced-muscleheads, metrosexuals, geeks, and some trannies. Also, lots of Barbie-type girls with little personality, or Euro trash. In general, just a lot of adults who act like their children. Not a very upscale crowd.

What I did like was the loud music, and the smoke from the ceiling and light-show, which for me is the only thing that separates this place for other Chicago clubs.
