If Table 52 wants to survive, they should do 3 things:
1. Fire the hostess everyone complains about.
2. Lower the prices.
3. Show their neighbors some respect and stop them from whistling so loudly all the time.

We had lunch reservations for 4, I called 2 days prior and asked to add 1 more. The host was aloof and acted like it was a problem. When we got there, we were told the kitchen closes at 2PM and "this is not a place to sit around and have cocktails," keep that in mind if you go. We never felt rushed and stayed until 3:30. The food was just okay except the daily special which was excellent. The biscuits were good and the side order of onion rings were delicious as well. As for the 12 layer cake, I'd skip it. I doubt I'll be back but it was fun to try once.

We dined at Table 52 for our daughter's college graduation, the end of May,'08. We had the Sunday special of fried chicken. We have never eaten such wonderful southern fried chicken in our lives! What was really exceptional was the service! We were doted on throughout our meal. We felt very special. The meal and staff were flwless! We hope to return many times!

Table 52....was initially very excited about trying this place, and didn't read any reviews before I went. There were two hosts who were very aloof...what happened to Southern Hospitality to go along with the "southern cooking?" The service was adequate, but I was told that even though there were a few empty tables that we were not able to move to one of them since they were fully booked...tables remained empty during our 2 hour meal so there is no reason why we couldn't have moved. The food does indeed taste like home cooking...so don't expect it to necessarily be tasty. I am sure that you know some cooks that have good intentions, but just come up a little short on flavor. I was so looking forward to the Jambalaya that I ordered...unfortunately it was the most bland and boring Jambalya that I ever ate in my life. Why would I have to pay $28 for some seafood with rice that lacks flavor and all there is to toss on it is tabasco sauce? The Sunday special of fried chicken was just plain boring as well. The delicious items were the appetizer biscuits, corn bread, potatoes, and desserts. The best service came from the bus person and the manager. The waiter brought the check when we barely just started eating dessert...which I can understand in some situations, but for $$$ dining it is just highly inappropriate. This place will continue to bring in customers, I am just not sure how many will be returning for a 2nd visit.

Almost had friend cancel res. for lunch on 4/24 due to odd reviews. SOO glad we didn't! Though a bit tight for space, the recommended wines were excellent, service very gracious, and food delicious! Had halibut with lemon caper sauce, and you should try the 12 layer chocolate cake. To die for!!! Had a very pleasant visit with a dear old friend, and 2 hours was quite adequate for a delicious afternoon lunch.

I dined at Table 52 for my birthday and the experience was amazing. The food was impeccable and Christopher (our server) couldn't have been more attentive and sweet. The only disappointing factor was the male hostess hovering over us after we finished our dinner. He kept eyeing our table waiting for us to leave. We found him to be extremely rude and if Art were around, we would have definitely made a point of saying something. Overall, a great experience. Thank you 'Table 52'.

We went to Table 52 for lunch on 03-07-08. Our reservation was for 1:30 pm for 2 adults and a child (7 mo). We asked while making the reservation 2 weeks prior if bringing our baby was going to be a problem. We were told, "No." When we arrived the hostess looked at us and asked us if the reservation was for 3 adults. We replied, "No, 2 adults and a child which we addressed when making the reservation." She seemed visibly annoyed and was down right rude. The baby slept the entire meal and was a non issue. That was a tough way to start our encounter at Table 52 and we thought about leaving. However, we stayed and we were happy with the food. Unfortunately, the experience was a wash because the food was amazing but the hostess left us soured.

I tried Table 52 for lunch during the Holiday Season. I really enjoyed the decor. The atmosphere is very intimate and it gives you a home-like feel. However, I didn't particularly like the food. The meal began with a very small biscuit that appeared to be only partially cooked. I ordered the Catfish for my meal. Although it wasn’t all that bad, it certainly wasn’t prepared the way that I expected since my waiter told me that it was a "Southern" meal??? The Grits were good; however, I could hardly find them on my plate because they serve such small portions. The Okra that was supposed to come with the meal was LITERALLY a garnish. Our neighbors shared a Pizza that appeared to be barely enough for one....let alone sharing? I will say, however, that my friend's Kolbe Burger was very good and rather filling. After the biscuits and small portions, we were rather scared to try the cake that we heard so much about. I just don't think that this restaurant is worth all the hype!

I was so excited when I heard a southern restaurant was opening downtown Chicago. Well I was let down! The fried green tomatoes should be abolished. My friend’s under cooked pork chop had to be sent back. The shrimp and grits were lacking, the grits! I will say that the staff was very nice and the décor was lovely. There only saving grace was there hummingbird cake which I would only recommend as a take out. Even with the waiting list and hospitable façade, the down home comfort could not be forced. -low country gentleman
