Loved every bite. I am a fan of both sweetness, and winter vegetables, so for me, it was a pleasure. The lightbulb lightfixtures were cool, as were the forks. But this restaurant's greatness is its deliciousness. Couldn't have been happier. Interesting wine list as well - red asti, yum :)

There were some definite kinks. We had a 7:30 reservation on a Tues night, but didn't finally sit down until 8:30. The maitre d' did try to mitigate it by bringing out two appetizers on the house. The tuna was good but not to die for as suggested in another review. The risotto cakes were very good. The biggest disappointment is that by the time we sat down, which was still a relatively early 8:30, they had run out of 3 entrees -- all the fish ones (salmon, turbot, and lobster ravioli). 2 other service kinks -- the waiter poured flat water into my sparkling and in general the service was very slow. Luckily, the food was good. I tasted the hamburger and it was very good. I ordered the rack of lamb and was so stuffed by then that I only ate 1/4 of it. But it was fantastic, as was the truffle grits and side that went with it. I had it packed up for the next night's dinner -- given how much I liked it and the $34 price tag, I was really disappointed when I got home & realized I left it there! The toffee dessert was disappointing given the hype it got. I agree with another reviewer that said it was all sugar and no finesse.
The bakery is opening soon, but they need to decide on what they are going to do with it in the evening -- the empty cases were an eyesore and makes it look like some abandoned restaurant, in the front entry.
Prices were on the too high side. Food was overall good. Sketchy service.

My family from Milwaukee ate at Aigre Doux on Saturday Feb. 17 to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. My daughter had the lamb, my son the prime rib and my husband and I the chicken. From start to finish going to this restaurant was an excellent experience. Great waiter, great food and amazing deserts. Wasn't cheap but we'll be back again soon.

Time at this fine dine is an excellent way to end an evening after a day of running around the Merchandise Mart. The Burger was explosive, and the Sticky Toffee, to this day, haunts me for a return visit. My friend works valet at the East Bank Club, and he told me about this place. Thanks Abdul. I still can’t pronounce the name, but damn it was good. Dress to impress.

Absolutely AMAZING! Aigre Doux is the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. The decor was exquisite and the service was without fault. Not to mention the FOOD! What a use of flavours and being a sweet lover myself, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was indeed to "die for". I would recommend anyone who reads this to try the restaurant as I guarantee that you will get hooked. I congratulate Chefs Ameen and Islam for bringing a "breath of fresh air" to the culinary world of Chicago! Thank you

Had dinner there Friday night with my wife. Had a great sampling of appetizers and the gourmet burgers with sublime desserts for a great price. The appetizers are all very tasty, especially the ahi tuna (very eastern flair), the white asparagus (spectacular presentation and sides), and the fried risotto (so rich and unusual). The burgers are great done medium with perfect fries. Their coffee was great, and the desserts in particular the sticky toffee was heavenly. We had been here several weeks ago, and the food has really gotten tight. Our server was friendly and always available. It is great to see such great food in such a casual ambience. Quite adventurous food with classical roots but still very accessible and flavorful. I will be back again soon.

Absolutely lovely! One of the most warm and welcoming places that I've been to in a long time. The food from both chefs is outstanding - lots of fun with flavors that work well together. I honestly believe Chef Ameen is the best pastry chef in town; her pomegranate dessert was just beautiful. The only negative comment I have is that the food took awhile to arrive but, since we didn't have anywhere to be, was well worth the wait.

I've tried the restaurant twice. My reservation wasn't ready (35 & 50 minutes late), and Malika herself asked the hostess to put some people who had just arrived in front of us. Apparently these 'celebrity chefs' value their celebrity clientele above all. For this policy-be less obvious-it's insulting to intelligence. People spread reviews. They can't be so naive as to think they know the only people with connections. The food was just OK. The steak was dry and fish undercooked. I was told "that's the way the chef likes it". The toffee dessert was like a Death by Chocolate: all sugar and no finesse. Also, restaurant was loud and bathroom dirty. We were very disappointed after being excited to try it. The hype around these chefs and the hope of seeing celebrities is what drives this restaurant. Maybe this poor quality works in California. We have many choices in this city-go elsewhere.
