I tried Smoque BBQ for the first time on Dec.3rd 2008, and I must say this day will go down in infamy. My friend and I went there specifically because it was on DDD and what we found out was BBQ paradise. We both had the same thing chopped briskit, and found it to be heaven. We had no wait, but while sitting there eating, found the line to form right out the door. The cornbread and mac and cheese were fantastic, and the politeness of the facilty was also amazing. So we both gave thumbs up and will definately be back.

I know a thing or two about BBQ. I grew up in the Carolinas and have lived in a number of "BBQ areas". This is the best BBQ joint in Chicago. It isn't perfect, but the rubs and sauces are spot on and the meats are perfect. I defy you to show me a better BBQ place in the city.

I happen to be watching foodnetwork last Sunday an thought I might stop in. I will start off by saying the bbq was good. What was not so good, was hearing the owner (seen on Diners,drive-in and dives)talk down to the employees in front of customers:-(

Drove past Smoque Saturday afternoon, about 4:00. Limited parking. 5th in line. Ordered a brisket platter, sides if mac'n'cheese and peach cobbler, a cornbread, a taste of ribs. Another line 8 deep to pick up. Owner came over and greeted me, apologized for the wait, I said that good 'cue was worth the wait. He offered me a job! Teehee! Took my food home and IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!! Can't wait to go back and get a slab of those 'cued KC ribs and a side of sweet peach cobbler. Absolutely delicious!

Some of the best BBQ this side of KC (the sliced brisket was my favorite). This is a no frills place in a nice neighborhood with friendly service. You may have to wait in line for a bit to get your order, so bring a book or talk to friends - the wait is well worth it.

outstanding work being done here. They do Memphis-style here, spice run and hardwood. I confess, I've been here a couple times, and have yet to open the container of sauce that comes with the dinner - the 'cue is juicy enough. The beans are also an unsung hero. Best 'cue I've had in Chicago, equal to Dinosaur in NY.

4 of us drove in from Skokie, and it was a wonderful surprise. Stay home if you crave atmosphere, but run, don't walk, if you want to get some "south in your mouth." Baby back ribs and brisket sandwich were out of sight. Prices are great and the food line moves very fast. Well organized and efficient staff.

four of us had dinner at smoque last evening, and here it is, 18 hours later and it's all i can do to keep myself from hopping in the car and driving down for another helping. the food was fantastic. our foursome ordered a little bit of everything. loved the pulled pork and vinegary sauce. the brisket was delicious; tender, juicy, served on a wonderful, buttered bun[would have been nice if the bun was warm]. baby back ribs as meaty and tender and non-greasy as any we've ever had. sides of coleslaw, baked beans, fries and peach cobbler all met with our approval. owner barry sorkin couldn't have been more gracious. very upfront about acknowledging problems. yes, parking can be a hastle, but hey! people, it's the city. and yes they have occassionally run out of some foods. isn't that a nice problem to have? means business is very healthy. we enjoyed talking with him and wish him continued success. we left armed with 2o or so menus to give to friends with our hardiest recommendation.

Very difficult to park (zoned permit parking everywhere) and go eat. After 25min I finally got inside. They were out of 3 out of 5 things on the menu, what's up with that? I got one of the last brisket orders, it sucked, sides ditto. On a scale from 0-10, including parking agravation a 0, I would never go back.
