The food is phenomenal but the level of hospitality borderlines ridiculous. I called to make reservations and was asked to call back in 5 minutes. Called back later and the person on the other line told me that she was busy and I was asked to call back in 2 hours. To make reservations???

The food here is wonderful. The service leaves much to be desired. The waitress who seems to be in charge is always trying to guilt you into buying an appetizer or dessert when you really don't want one. She can't be trusted, always trying to get you to pay for more than you ate. The jibarito is the best thing on the menu - but the jibaritos are better at Borinquen - as they should be seeing that they were invented there!

The food is well above average, as evidenced by its popularity and full dining room. Problem is, they obviously have a small kitchen, and tables are served one at a time. Better plan on waiting at least an hour for your entrees, if you come at prime time on a Friday or Sat. evening. We enjoyed the Red Snapper Filets in a unique Creole sauce, as well as the Roast Pork in garlic sauce. Nice fillers were the included white rice and black beans in mole sauce. Not much atmosphere here, but it is BYOB. Though I would recommend this restaurant, I still strongly prefer La Cocina (See my Review).

I went to Habana Libre when they opened in the fall and loved it. The staff was so nice and friendly and the food was fantastic. We decided to have a private party there in November and it was a HUGE success in large part due to Habana Libre's staff. They were so accommodating to various seating arrangements (for 50 people), menu options and assisting us with drinks and bar setup. They made special meals for vegetarians and played a great selection of salsa music.

As usual, the food was fantastic. I had at least 10 people comment on the empanadas and croquettes. Everyone loves the steak and chicken selections we picked and who doesn't love flan?!

All in all, it's a great place to grab lunch or dinner, and they can throw a great party also!

The food at Habana Libre is really that good! Highly recommend the combination appetizer platter (comes with mouth watering “croquetas” and “empanadas”). The food is very affordable, it’s actually more affordable than this Centerstage article maintains. The atmosphere is very cozy and you will readily find young couples dining over wine (it’s BYOB!). Plan on a 30 min wait on weekends if you are dining after 7:30 pm (the place is pretty tiny and fills up fast).

But there is a problem, the wait is uncharacteristic. We waited nearly an hour for something we imagined would be a very standard item off the menu and then waited another 25 minutes for our check after dining. In the end, the wait was not really an issue—it’s the inattentiveness and the indifference of the servers that bothered us—not once did they come to our table to either refill the water or ask if we needed anything.

I would recommend this place for the food as long as you can come prepared for the unresponsiveness.

this is one of the best places to have real Cuban food, great "CROQUETAS" and "EMPANADAS" we likes to go almost every weekend. The "ROPA VIEJA" taste as a homemade food (like my grandma used to cooked) We tried almost everything in the menu and it 's GREAT FOOD!!! and the people VERY FRIENDLY!!! But try and have a good dinner!!!
