The Good:
The service here is friendly, fast, and efficient. Thai Aroma’s menu features clear descriptions of the food and a breakdown of the restaurant’s “hotness” scale which includes information about the type of pepper and amount used in the dish. Food prices are reasonable, especially the lunch special for $5.99 which includes appetizer, soup, and entrée. Portions are adequate, and the food is both fresh and served piping hot.
The Bad:
Sadly, the food is extremely bland. The “Thai Chicken Soup” was watery and flavorless, which is too bad, because it certainly looked nice with plenty of rice, a few fresh spinach leaves, diced carrots, celery, and chicken. The potstickers (fried and served with a thick sweet dipping sauce) were ok, though nothing special. The pad see ew was likewise uninteresting (though the fresh broccoli and pea pods in the dish were bright green and nicely prepared): While I appreciate a Thai restaurant that doesn’t drown its food in sticky sweetness, I also like some flavor.
The Ugly:
The décor here is hideous. The carpet is an odd shade of blue with a spoon/culinary motif in bright colors. The walls are a dark orange, and the chair backs are black. I felt like I was in a badly decorated haunted house.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Chicago - and I've been to many. Small and intimate. Thai Escargot is a must have!
