This is an excellent cafe, all around. It's got a great, authentic, retro atmosphere - from the music to the furniture to the 50s-era fridge, ceiling fan and rotary phone. The coffee is exquisite, the prices are reasonable, the gelato is first-rate, and the owners is a great guy.

I don't typically write reviews, but this place doesn't get the business it deserves and I want to get the word out. Though, admittedly, I like that it's typically quiet here, I'd be really mad if it went out of business.

Give it a try; you won't be disappointed.

Have been here a number of times with my SO and we LOVE it! Very friendly with really great coffee.. a lovely lounging spot. A real step up from your average Starbucks

I was very disappointed by this place, especially since it had the potential to be a good Starbucks alternative. The coffee was bitter and too strong. The owner was, surprisingly, rude and snappy in his responses. We will not return; at least you get service with a smile at Starbucks.

It was a bitterly cold Saturday afternoon and the perfect latte with a homemade (by owner's mother) spice cookie were only trumped by my choice seat on the fireplace. The owner, who you can tell truly loves his job, took great care to add wood to the fire as needed to keep us warm and happy. My friend and I spent hours in front of the fire. We were engaged in a lovely conversation about international travel by a stranger who knew how much to talk and when it's time to say "It was nice talking with you" and turn back to her own reading. I'm a convert to this warm, homey neighborhood spot. (And I heard outdoor seating for the summer is in the works!)

Modern living calls for a classic sanctuary, and that is just what Ventrella’s Caffe is providing to the Ravenswood/Logan Park area. A sleek yet casual oasis of smart mid-century design, Ventrella's top quality food and libations are a reminder of a time when there was just enough technology to make life better without complicating it.

Upon entering, my friend and I ordered the stracciatella gelato and took a seat at one of the little tables, each of which is charmingly outfitted with a different 1950’s-style light. The gelato was perfect; the slivers of decadent shaved chocolate exquisitely suspended in the thick vanilla wonderfulness immediately made me forget computers were ever invented. With delightfully friendly service and the pure sounds of Mr. Ventrella’s extensive roots music collection from the ‘40’s-‘60’s added in, I was completely won over by this establishment.

Although officially opened for business in July of 2006, I am certain they do not make places like this anymore.
