IT IS NOW APRIL 2008, I NOW LIVE IN TEXAS. MY GIRLFRIEND SET UP A MYSPACE ACOUNT FOR ME WHICH HAS A TRIBUTE TO JIM ELLISON. CHECK IT OUT. WHEN I OPEN IT IT PLAYS "ORDINARY GIRL". I KEEP A SCRAPBOOK I PUT TOGETHER FROM THE MI DAYS. WHEN I LEFT CHGO. SHE GAVE ME HER MATERIAL ISSUE T'SHIRT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I COULD GET A COPY OF THE UNTIDE SONG. KAREN CURRAN. A FOREVER MI FAN.

i write because i wanted to say to material issue not only that i loved "valerie loves me " but that i relied on it to bail me out of pleny of dancefloor situations. i have dj'd 78 to 85 mixing it all and ended up owning the loop lounge from '85 to current. i don't dj much anymore but me and my dj friends did much to open minds to music. valerie... is a fav at the loop and an emergency shute when nothing was working. i didn't know about jim's passing until i got here and i wish he could know how important that song is to lots of us. regards bruce

When you think of Jim Ellison's passing and are trying to search for the reason, please remember the below quote:

"Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them."

    ~ Henry David Thoreau

After reading this Thoreau quote a few times, Jim's death becomes easier to accept and understand.

I AM HIS BIGGEST FAN. I AM 45 AND ONLY MISSED ONE OF MI'S CONCERTS SINCE THE DAY THEY PLAYED AT CHGO. FEST WHEN THE REPLACEMENTS BROKE UP. I WON TICKETS FROM XRT FOR THE SHOW WITH THE PRENENDERS AND HAVE THAT SHOW ON CASSETTE TAPE. HE MADE A SPECIAL DEDICATION TO HIS FAMILY AND IT BREAKS MY HEART FOR HIM MOM AND CRY EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO IT. THEY ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE MY FAVORITE BAND IN THE WORLD. I WAS THERE AT THE CHINA CLUB WHEN THEY PLAYED WITH PHIL ANGOTTI, A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE WHO RECENTLY PLAYED IN WHITING IN. AND PLAYED A SPECIAL DEDICATION TO JIM FOR ME AND PLAYED "THE VERY FIRST LIE". ON JUNE 20TH. I CALLED XRT AND ASED FOR A SPECIAL DEDICATION TO JIM AND SINCE HE PASSED I LIGHT A CANDLE IN CHURCH FOR HIM EVERY YEAR ON THE DATE OF HIS DEATH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN HIS B-DAY WAS SO I CAN DO THE SAME ON THAT DAY. I HAVE A FRAMED AUTOGRAPHED PIC. FROM HIM TO ME FRAMED WITH MY CONCERT TICKETS. I HAVE SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO SEND TO HIS MOM SO IF SHE WOULD LOOK ME UP I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. LOVE AND MISS YOU AND WISH YOU A MERY CHRISTMAS BECAUSE THAT'S ALL YOU WANTED SINCE I HEARD THE SONG FROM ULTIDE 91. THE ONLY SONG I DON'T OWN. KAREN CURRAN WHITING IN.

Jim was a very good friend, since the early days when he was learning how to play the guitar, and I was always fixing his... the last time I saw him was with Rick Nielsen at the Metro... as always, their version of "Ballroom Blitz" with Rick kicking around was the best.

It's been 8 years since you left, buddy. Darn near every time I strap on a guitar I saw "hi" to you.

See you on the next plane. And tune yer guitar, dammit!

I LOVE Material Issue. I was introduced to them in the early ninety's... and they became a huge part of my growth in that era. Thank you again Material Issue, for all of the memories!

    Love, Blythe.

These guys were a great band and great friends back in the day. I'm looking for a photo, which I believe was somewhere on one of their albums that was shot from the floor through plexiglass that the band was standing on using a fisheye lens. I want to recreate the photo as an homage. If anyone knows/ has this image, it would mean a lot to me to get an emailed scan of it. I can't find it anywhere on the web. smn@pacificnet.net

I recently was introduceed to the music of Material Issue. I found the music to be sweet and melodic. I wanted to learn about the band more and found this site. My heart reaches accross the miles to those who are still missing a talented and insightful artist. *hug*
