Urge Overkill

One of the most stylish bands to come out of Chicago, Urge Overkill has been out of scene for quite sometime. But as of January 2004, the band remerged for a "reunion" type tour around the world. According to the band's website, the new lineup is as following... "Nash and Ed with Gaza Strippers bassist Michael "Hodgie" Hodgkiss, Light FM's Chris Frantisak on keyboards, and The Last Vegas' Nate Arling on drums (note: Nate Arling has since been replaced by Brian Quast of The Cherry Valence)."

The last record released was "Exit The Dragon" in 1995 on Geffen Records. Past recordings include "Stull" in 1992 on Touch and Go Records, "The Supersonic Storybook" (local blueswoman Lynne Jordan provides backing vocals on this disc), and "Saturation" ("Sister Havana" and "Positive Bleeding" were mainstream alternative hits). Their cover of the Neil Diamond tune "You'll Be A Woman Soon" was one of the highlights of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.

England's Select magazine named Blackie Onassis one of the 50 most "shaggable" rockers. Oh yeah, and they went to Northwestern University. Onassis (in a previous life known as John Rowan) was also a member of Friends of Betty, a very early incarnation of Red Red Meat. Nash Kato went solo for a while and managed to record "Debutante" on March 20, 2000. Louise Post of Veruca Salt sings a track on this record and is even credited as the "debutante".

The band plans on releasing a new disc sometime in early 2005, but must find a label to release it on first. Touch and Go Records plans on releasing a UO retrospective scheduled for Spring '05.
