Trevor Menear

Originally from Grand Rapids, MI, guitarist Trevor Menear came to Chicago at a very young age with his father, radio personality, Kevin Matthews. After being thrown behind a drum kit at the age of two, Menear later gravitated toward the guitar and graced the House of Blues stage by age 13.

Citing Nevermind as his musical call-to-arms, Menear spent many years wrapping his mind around Frank Zappa, Doors and Pink Floyd numbers his father practiced with a cover band in the family basement. Paired with his own record stack of old blues and jazz classics as a teen, he’s cutting comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jonny Lang.

His professional career kicked off with an old AM radio-type cover of John Lennon’s "John Sinclair," for a Darfur fundraiser on Warner Brothers Records. Menear ditched a musical scholarship at the University of Tennessee to create his 2008 debut record, Introducing Trevor Menear, in Chicago. And thankfully so, because it was this album that grabbed the attention of Shangri-La Music (a division of Warner).
