| Live and electronic beat maker Thomas Faulds displays his inexhaustible abilities in a variety of genres. With dreamy electro-jazz duo Silences Sumire, Faulds lays his clicking arrangements under the looped saxophone of collaborator Charles Gorczynski. Along with The Pandering, he provides light backbeats to an atmospheric electro-indie sound. For his solo moniker, Mercury Effect, Faulds creates some of the most sci-fi and IDM sounds in his catalog.
Faulds also has a few active collaborative duos, including one with improvisational cellist Lilianna Wosko as Wosko/Faulds and another with Algernon vibraphonist Katie Wiegman as Wiegman/Faulds. Much of Fauld’s work is done on laptop, but he plays drum kit for DDT Trio, an experimental jazz group that includes guitarist/composer Dylan Schwartz and upright bassist Daniel Thatcher. Additionally, Faulds lends his wide-ranging percussive skills to another creation with Schwartz, a worldly folk duo named As It Falls.
The Silences Sumire material has been released on Philadelphia jazz/funk/hip-hop label Ropeadope Digital, in addition to local label Ears & Eyes Records. The Mercury Effect material has been released on Xynthetic Music and Sixteensteps.com.
