Amanda and Joe Ziemba were married in 2002 and have been playing in bands together since 1997. The two were formerly in the band, Wolfie, but left in the fall of 2001. Less than a year later, The Like Young formed in Chicago.
At first glance, you'd think this was another White Stripes type of band (Female/Drummer + Male/Guitar/Vocals = Raw Indie Rock). But the Like Young has more of a kick than the White Stripes because their songs aren't as dark. The Like Young adds just the right amount of indie rock and pop to their music. Amanda, the drummer and background vocals, is a heavy weight in the percussions department. Her skills are top notch and her vocals are earthy and sugary sweet. Joe, the guitarist and lead singer, is like a young George Harrison during the early Beatles days. See one of their live shows and watch the way he plays the hell out of his guitar.
The band's first full length album, Art Contest, was released on May 20, 2003 through Parasol Records. Previous releases include the "Looked Up" Plus Four EP (Kittridge Records, 2002) and Split 7" with ST Monroe (Forge Again Records 2002).
