The Keynote Trio

The Keynote Trio plays various Jazz styles, R & B, Blues, Bossa Nova, and has worked together playing clubs and a variety of affairs/venues around Chicago's Southside and Northwest Indiana. Keynote Trio's sound is derived from a variety of influences and musical approaches, resulting in a contemporary take on a classic jazz sound, performed with refreshing clarity, romance, and soul.

PAUL WERNER- Piano - Paul began playing on the Chicago jazz scene as a percussionist in local clubs and bars on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. Paul then switched over to playing the piano and bass. He spent 12 years with the Gospel Choir Grace and Glory. Paul played with a local group called Blues Messenger and a Reggae group, White Dove. Honing his skills in blues and R & B, Paul has performed regularly at Allgauer's restaurant in the Hilton Hotel, Northbrook, Illinois; and at the Radisson Hotel's Jazz Brunch in Merrillville, Indiana.

AARON CHARLES- Bass - Aaron began playing bass at the age of 12 and upright bass at the age of 21. He began playing professionally with several bands in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area, where he opened for Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Earl, and Junior Wells. Inspired by his grandfather, George Meek Sr., who played on the road with Count Basie; Aaron began to pursue his interest in Jazz. After moving to Northwest Indiana in 1998, he began to sit in regularly at jam sessions at the New Apartment Lounge led by saxophonist Von Freeman of Chicago

DOUG CABAN-Drummer - Doug developed an interest in music at an early age because there was always music being played in his home. His father was a musician and a draftsman and his mother sang in the church choir.

Doug started playing drums at the age of 12 and has been playing professionally for approximately 30 years. His drumming influences have been Art Blakely, Tony Williams, Buddy Rich, Vinnie Colaivta, and others.
