| Tenor saxophonist Ron Blake only infrequently appears in Chicago after having moved from here to Florida and then New York, but then it's usually a worthy gig. Says the San Francisco Examiner, "Ron Blake plays a hot tenor, picking his way through melodic inventions and rhythmic riffs -- and he does this all with remarkable subtlety." In NYC, Blake met trumpeter Roy Hargrove, in whose group he ended up working with the ilk of Branford Marsalis and Joshua Redman (on Roy Hargrove Quintet With the Tenors of Our Time) and appearing on albums by guitarist Bobby Broom (Waitin' and Waitin'), drummer Tony Reedus (Minor Thang), drummer Clarence Penn (Penn's Landing), and pianist Marc Cary's Listen (Arabesque).
