| Since its inception in 1998, Old No. 8 has taken its balls-out, whiskey-flavored brand of country rock across America with no apologies. Mixing a country-fried rhythm section with tasty lap steel, scorching guitar and rich four-part harmonies, the five-piece has built a large, loyal following that comes out in force to listen, to dance and to drink. Combining the talents of five songwriters, Old No.8's live shows are at once both cohesive and unpredictable. There is always an inspired offering from their grab bag of roots, rock and 'grass covers, but with more than 90 original songs in its repertoire, the band has yet to play the same set twice.
Dead Man's Hand, Old No. 8’s first full-length studio album, was recorded at Rax Trax in Chicago in the spring of 2000. Self-produced and independently promoted, it immediately commanded the attention of the local and regional music industry and soon led to enthusiastic professional representation. The 12-song album showcases the band's collective songwriting appeal while maintaining the raw energy that has captivated live audiences for years. Since 2000, Old No. 8 has performed more than 350 shows throughout the country in support of Dead Man's Hand. The amazing, positive response from audiences coast-to-coast has been fueling the band's enthusiasm for touring as they play before a fan base 2000 strong and growing. Old No. 8 continues to bring their music to the highways and byways, venturing into world-renowned festivals and events such as Daytona Beach Bike Week, and picking up steam with each leg of their extensive tour.
When they're not on the road, Old No. 8's stomping ground is Chicago, where they exercise chops at finer boozing establishments such as Abbey Pub, Alive One, Bottom Lounge, Boulevard Cafe, Double Door, Fitzgerald's, Hideout, House of Blues, Lounge Ax, Martyrs', Metro, and Schuba's. Old No. 8 contributed to the newly released The Songs of Fred Eaglesmith tribute album from Twangoff Records and are poised to independently release Double Barrel, a blazing two-hour-plus set recorded in Chicago and mixed with help from Jay Bennett of Wilco fame. Plans for an extensive support tour for the 2-cd live album are underway.
