| As a saxophonist, he was once one of Chicago's busiest and most omni-present musicians, performing with a huge variety of bands in varying styles, from the avant-garde jazz NRG Ensemble, Witches and Devils, Vandermark 5, Sun Ra Project, Cinghiale (all with fellow reedman Ken Vandermark), to the rock-oriented Slam and hip-hop acid-jazz Liquid Soul. Previously he played with the Psychedelic Furs, The Waitresses (known for their hit "I Know What Boys Like"), Billy Idol and the Power Station. His license plate reads "X MARS X."
